ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Writing on the Wall

Just An Average Day

I wake up and go to work and later I will come back home
Hug the dog and pat the kids and then I'll sit and rest awhile
It's just an average day
It's just an average day
It's just an average day in my average life.

Wife comes home and I make dinner 'cause she doesn't like to cook
Then I'll go out for a walk--the same walk I take every night
It's just an average day in my average life.

Sometimes I wonder who'd I'd be if I did this or maybe that
Sometimes I wonder who'd I'd be...

Tuck the wife and kids in for the night and then I'll go outside
Stare up at the sky, you never know what you might see,
You never know...
It's just an average day in my average life.

The Handcuff King

Are you feeling a bit humdrum? Has life got you down?
Then I just might be the one to spin your world around.

There's no trick I can't perform, no bonds I can't break.
(And now he's coming to your town!)
This is your lucky day.

Some things just can't be explained
So take some pleasure from my pain.

I am the amazing handcuff king!

Is the hand quicker than the eye? (Watch him closely friend.)
Women smile and grown men cry. (Watch him closely friend.)
Step right up and don't be shy. (The illusion will blow your mind.)
Don't let this chance pass you by. (He is the greatest of all time.)

Some things just can't be explained
So take some pleasure from my pain.

I am the amazing handcuff king...

La Fee Verte

Dappled and dazzled
Horn-rimmed and rendered in metalloid green
Fractured and frazzled
Lift up your feathers in alkaloid sheen.

Wrap your arms around me and I'll pull you deep inside.
I will always be here if you need a place to hide.

Absinthe and rising
No compromising the emerald miles
Surgical lightning
Plow the narrow straits of a sugar cube smile.

Wrap your arms around me...

Echo belly rumbling
Giggling schoolboys and the silver rhymes we sing
Fractured mind thrumming
Wild eyed ecstatic and creme de menthe wing.

Wrap your arms around me...

Shift with the seasons
Silver flood plates and green guttering game
Drifting without reason
Sweet caramel tinge and bohemian flame.

Wrap your arms around me...

Laughs All Around

The strangest things are happening
It's getting weird you see
I don't know how to say this
But the wall just smiled at me.

Banquet

I don't know what's wrong with me today
I don't seem to have too much to say
But let me entertain you with a thought:
There's no one anywhere who can't be bought
When I was a boy I'd kneel and pray
He chose to ignore me anyway
The echo of his laughter is the story of my life
The memory of my ignorance is sharper than a knife

Who sits down to the meal must eat or find the banquet thin
The table is not laid without until it's laid within

I like May she comes so new and high
Makes me mad for eggs and cream
She makes my flag fly
Sexpot slices her red tongue but still she claims her spot
All are welcome in the sun that burns so close and hot

Who sits down to the meal must eat or find the banquet thin
The table is not laid without until it's laid within...

The Strange One

You can call me crazy
You can call me a fool
But I got thirteen inches on my golden rule
300 million people...they got nothing to say
Walking `round in circles each and every day.
The status quo is calling out my name
Trapped in a life wrapped up in plain
But I'll never play their zombie games

`Cause I'm a strange one
Yeah I'm a strange one baby
I'm a strange one
And don't save a place in line for me
`Cause I'm a strange one.

Emerald equation
The strangest sensation
My mind just picked my pocket again
Secret invasion
Prettiest persuasion
My world falls in pieces like rain
The status quo is calling out my name
Trapped in a world wrapped up in plain
But I'll never play that zombie game

'Cause I'm a strange one...
Accidentally Naked*

What's perfect for you?
How much is too much?
It's the toughest call when you begin to lose touch
It's human position
Holding hands in the bed
My favorite excuse—the things we never said

The further I go it seems the less I know

When you come as you must
To the streets of my city
Leave your memories behind
But bring your self pity
Is it my body you want
Or the way I perceive you
Or the lies you tell
Until you think they're true?

The further I go it seems the less I know

Live For Love*

Her days of rapture are coming to an end
Her flesh dissolves to reveal the world within
Somehow somewhere she knows she lost the touch
But now it doesn't seem to matter very much

Oh she lives for love

Today she handed me a fresh picked rose
She said it's just like her...it only lives to grow
She said the flower's beautiful when it's in full bloom
But dead it's even lovelier; I know she's leaving soon

Oh she lives for love

If you're up there, Jesus, I'm waiting still
This life you gave us is such a bitter pill
But I love the things you didn't say
And if you're up there, Jesus, I'm down here waiting still

Oh I live for love

Journey Blind*

I try to be nice and this is what I get
Walking my high wire without a net
I ask for no quarter and I never get none
Strange how we trust the colors that always run

Some revolutions take a long time to be
Life's just a headache on the brow of your apathy
We missed the disco bus and just kept walking
No one will listen until you stop your talking

Journey blind...

Back To The Way*

Mirage starts to lead you wide astray
On the straight ahead back to the way
To live in peace
To walk the clouds
To share the wealth
To be allowed
To keep my health
To do my work
To live
To grow
To take care of you
Mirage starts to lead you wide astray
On the straight and narrow back to the way...

Shit's Gettin' Deep*

Eyes like ice or maybe more like porcelain (Somebody call the priest!)
The funeral winds slowly past the cafe
(This shit is getting deep!)
One suspects that lust played a central role
(It's just another creep!)
Endurance is something only devils and ghosts respect
(All the mothers weep!)

The world took a big gulp of my soul
(Seven come eleven I'm out of control!)
Maybe I ain't got nothing much to say
(But I'm gonna say them anyway!)

The Lapse That Tides Us Over*

Run? It was a crawl – slow painful and desperate
One man nearly broken down in brain
Poured out his strength into letters and his diary
His last words were, “For God's sake, there's no such thing as too much of a good thing”
One morning last July he found gold in sea water and trees
No, I mean you could see these people were poor
I know it isn't just a question of A or B
We're going deeper than men have ever gone before

I expect a lot of a man from Texas with a dream
He does what he pleases – he strains coconuts with wheat
A lonely man carves out some dance a social whirl It's clean and natural, boy – it's sweet

He bought people's work and then he threw it all away
He's really a man of character
It's like love – it's no good if it leads to possession You feel like you've done something at the end of the day...

I Leave Her Here Until She Rings 3 Times*
Are the palms of your hands frozen to the window?
Have you lost your way in darkness?
Did you put your feet on backwards this morning
When you rose from bed?
Well if you did then you are not with me!

Out of the sky
Out of the blue
Out of the nowhere
Into the here

Did you scrub your face from your head today
And laugh as you watched it swirl down the drain?
As you slept did you dream you had wings of fire
Soaring to the sun?
Then you are not with me!

Out of the sky
Out of the blue
Out of the nowhere Into the here...
Band Aids And Tea*
I saw her in the drug store in the med supply section
Breaking thermometers and drinking the mercury
She turned and looked at me
I dropped my sack of band aids and tea
Later on the bed smoking hand-rolled cigarettes Watching the Tonight Show and laughing at Jay Leno's chin
I knew I'd never see her again
I knew I'd never see her again...
