Wee Jim's Blackeye

by Jim Shelley & Book of Kills

"Sorta like a sneering Bob Dylan with walls of distorted guitar, riffs, and solid songs from beginning to end. Jim Shelley's output is amazing, and this is another in a long list of highly recommended releases from this hometaper." - Alternative Press

Album Notes
BOOK OF KILLS "Wee Jim's Blackeye"
i'm sitting here watching the circus pack up/feeling like a combination richard hell/joanna pettit/harrison ford/george michaels/akira kurosawa/etc etc/fat man walking a german shepherd stops/sez/didnt i see you in belgrade/last march selling helium crutches to amputees/i say no you must have the wrong guy/i'm the lead singer in pink floyd/then he rips off his shirt/starts screamin'/that i'm punching holes in the ozone layer/and causing all those sex riots in new orleans/and then he turns to this cop/who just happens by walking his alligator on a chain/sez/officer i insist that you arrest this man/cop sez why/fat man sez/why's there gotta be a reason for everything/and about that time/i split quick/hijack an elephant/back to the valley/buy a few cans of spray paint/just mindin' my own business writing question marks/on the sidewalk/when all a sudden my manager comes by/in his lear jet/and sez/the boys wanna know when your next/brilliant work of art/will drop

(and i pause to reflect)

it's better to listen to music than to read it and somebody said something about me writing some notes to explain where all these songs came from and why/but i dont explain the notes/i just sing them/all i know is that i have given up any notion/of success/the angle of the landscape/the entry time i wake/between the velvet curtain/and a crumbling wall/i plot my last escape/in silver rhymes i break/the seasons shift my position/what am i/who is me/a stain on the wall/often sold but never bought/the polar ratchets fetch me down/i was never user friendly/i'm only just occasional/a slanting in the sky/if you think you might come around/i sing my songs for free/it's just my destiny that's all/i'll sing my songs for free/i never did understand too well all this talk about responsibilities/i say let a blind man walk the freeway on his own/else he's got no business being there in the first place/like the jester said/i do know that we're all gonna die one day/and that no death has ever stopped the world yet/my songs are splinters in baby's palms/acid on the tongue/the noose around a dead man's neck/and they don't mean a goddman thing that you dont want 'em to mean/put on your sunglasses/and put on your pork pie/it's gonna be a hot time on planet earth today

(and i reflect to pause)

so i tell my manager that art is a scam/the only thing that matters in this life/is check stubs/and hamburger
