Album Notes
The new release Jinx Jones Trio – Live captures a night of classic jazz guitar in a trio setting that is exciting improvisational and expressive. Recorded live at San Francisco’s Bird & Beckett, this record captures the mood and energy of the classic jazz recordings from nightclubs like the Village Vanguard, the Five Spot, and the Blue Note during jazz’s heyday. Guitar enthusiasts will enjoy the variety of textures incorporating chordal and single note improvisation. This recording of the Jinx Jones Trio – Live places the listener in the best seat in the house for an exciting evening of swinging instrumental magic.

Jinx Jones is well known for his work in the Rockabilly and Americana field. He has long ago established himself as a musician’s musician in his work on stage with artists like Chuck Berry, Roy Buchanan and Solomon Burke. Jinx has earned gold and platinum record awards with R&B Divas En Vogue. In this live recording, Jinx brings together his diverse influences along with his love of jazz guitar greats like Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessell and Kenny Burrell to deliver an inspired performance of guitar deliciousness.

Drummer Ken Owen is noted for his work with such luminaries as Emmy Lou Harris, Peter Rowan, Jim Campilongo, Jim Lauderdale, Buddy Miller, Nina Gerber, Blaine Sprouse, and Bobby Black. In the jazz trio Ken brings his expressive sensibilities on drums and bongos as both driver of the rhythm section and soloist.

Bassist John Clark is a seasoned veteran of the San Francisco and national jazz scene. He spent many years as a touring member of Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. Among John’s many accomplishments, he is also a faculty member/instructor for the Stanford University Jazz Workshop. John performs solid rhythm and creative solos on this live recording.
