To realize the many elements of the Common Ground theme, all of the artists' strengths needed to be utilzed, including composing, arranging, playing, and supporting. The musicians on this recording are all leaders too, and I'm particularly fond of their writing. So, I asked them all to bring original material to this session. We had all worked together or knew each other in one context or another, so everyone was at ease picking charts that would complement the talents on hand. It was wonderful as each "leader" guided us through their concept for each tune--and how everyone else responded. The combined results you hear epitomize the best of the Common Ground we all share, a beautiful desire to make music together and a devotion to a love of sound.
