Album Notes
Jo Ann Smith plays the autoharp in ways that will forever change your thinking about this instrument and its role in traditional music. Her broad range of styles, exquisite arrangements and drop-dead technical abilities are a delight to experience.

Known for her use of non-standard chords and lush single-key arrangements, Jo Ann is a much sought-after performer and workshop instructor. Her easy-going demeanor and can-do approach make her a favorite of workshop attendees and audiences alike. She performs regularly, both as a soloist and as a member of the acoustic band, Pocket Change.

“Rhythm of the Rain” is Jo Ann’s first CD. It was listed among the top 70 albums for the month of February 2005 on the FolkDJ-L website. The first cut from this album " Amazing Grace " was included in volume 20 of the Acoustic Rainbow Radio Sampler and is receiving airplay both in the US and abroad. Her performance on the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour in Lexington, KY in November 2004 has been called a watershed event for the autoharp community.

Having won both the International (Winfield) Autoharp Championship in 1999 and the Mountain Laurel Championship in 2003, Jo Ann is sure to surprise and delight you with her 37-string prowess. You’ll never see an autoharp the same way again.

Our Lady of the Autoharp
I was most pleasently pleased both by how quickly the CD arrived all the way over here in Denmark but ever more so by the music. I had my doubts because there would accompanying muscians, but the music was really nicely welded together.

My only disappointment is that "Hewlett" was notone of the numbers -- but this, I hope, will be rectified on a 2nd production :-)

Very skillful use of the diatonic autoharp
Jo Ann is a masterful autoharp player. This CD has some great fast bluegrass tunes, along with some songs with vocals and some slower reflective melodies. The backup musicians are good too, but the autoharp shines through the most.

Superb CD!!
This album is without a doubt the best autoharp CD around.. I live in the UK and here there are not many autoharpists therefore this album is a great inspiration and a must-have for anybody's bluegrass, country, or acoustic collection!! Jo Ann's use of complex and non-standard chords revolutionises the way in which the autoharp is seen, heard and played!!!..

enjoying every joyous note!
When ever I get the high lonesomes, I listen to Rythm of the Rain and my spirit is lifted. Jo Ann Smith takes me home again!

One of the best players ever. One of the best autoharp cds ever.
This cd shows a master of her instrument. But Jo Ann Smith not only does this in her a cappella pieces, she blends perfectly with her band. Her technique includes playing only the desired note without touching the adjacent strings (thus giving a clarity of sound almost unknown to autoharpists), she knows restraint, as well. This adds to a rare musicality in all the selections. The band is first rate. What a find!

What a truly amazing lady Jo Ann is!
If only I had been able to have access to such wonderful playing as this, I might have been able to do more with my own autoharp than I do. This record deserves to be at the top of all record charts anywhere in the world. I live in the Isle of Man and have been playing my own instrument lately at folk clubs and people are excited by it as it is a bit of a novelty here, but they would go exstatic if they were able to hear Jo Ann.
I am a new born fan of this music. More please!
