ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"If i could sound like anything it would be the wind and sky, maybe a bit of waterfall and craggy places"

1. Titrwm Tatrwm/Hiraeth - two Welsh folk songs i find quite haunting, using just a couple lines of the song Hiraeth for a chorus. Titrwm tatrwm is the sound of peebles tossed at a sweetheart's window, and hiraeth, an unexplainable longing. The Welsh words in the opening verse, translate as "Titrwm, tatrwm, Gwen the color of lambs, i can't knock any longer, the wind is cold from the lake, awaken, color of the valley's flowers, Bellow the fire to light now, it's stormy tonight." In the chorus Hiraeth, the Welsh words translate as: "a great longing, a cruel longing, longing that breaks my heart."

2. Where Will It? - a song inspired by a walk behind our old cabin, where hemlocks were filled with diamonds and wonderment followed in all directions.

3. Ar Lan y Mor (On the Sea Shore) a traditional Welsh love song. The Welsh words translate as : "On the sea shore there are red roses, on the sea shore there are white lilies, on the sea shore is my love, sleeping night and rising in morning. One the sea shore there is a flat stone, where i have spoke to my love, around it grows the lily and sometimes sprig of rosemary."

4. Lady Joan - a story of King John's daughter Joan and Prince Llywelyn ab Iorwerth, that has completely touched my heart - first through the writings of Sharon Kay Penman in her book Here Be Dragons, and later by the wonder of Garth Celyn, the home of Lady Joan and Llewelyn.

5. All the Way to Avalon - there's always a dream within us, not far from where we have walked before....

6. Bless the Creatures - a song for all the many woodland animals passing by the old farmhouse in Hope, NJ - whether it be bear, fox, squirrel, deer, chipmunk, turkey vulture, praying mantis or copperhead, it was a special place to have shared with them. This song is for fellow nature lover and friend John Frost, who passed away earlier this year, leaving us much too soon.

7. Lady of the Fountain - a treasured Welsh folk tale found in the ancient White book of Rhydderch, and the Red Book of Hergest associated with the Mabinogion. The hero is Owain, a beloved knight in King Arthur's court. In the story itself, there's a ring of protection, a lion that befriends him, a giant, and a series of quests before living happily ever after with the Lady of the Fountain. i'm singing the song as her handmaid Luned.

8. Summer Garden - spring sat heavy under the cedar tree, a change of seasons for the waxwings, bluets and me....

All songs written by Jodee James, except Titrwm Tatrwm/Hiraeth and Ar Lan y Mor, both Welsh folk songs. Songs recorded, produced and performed by Jodee (vocals, guitar, dulcimer, keyboard, harp, percussion.)

A folk performer with acoustic roots in legend and Celtic folk tales, Jodee conjures the very essence of tradition, whether of this century or those before us. With a passion for folklore since childhood, Jodee has crafted her own blend of originality - nobles, shepherds, lovers and dreamers, birds as messengers and inspiring heroes, all come to life - making an unique and enchanting musical journey.
