ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Joe Lima establishes himself as a formidable folk force with his second CD, titled simply, "Joe Lima." Spare, stark and 100% acoustic, it is a musical melting pot of fearlessly melded styles. From the old-timey folk twang of "Driving Lucinda to the Courthouse" to the urbane bossa nova of "Fistful of Kumquats," Joe seamlessly weaves these seemingly disparate elements into a whole that is uniquely his own, and uniquely American.

Joe fuses the gentle fingerpicking style of Mississippi John Hurt with Cuban and Brazilian hand percussion, lending the music a sexy groove not usually associated with folk music. Percussionists Luca Brandoli and Juan Estanga rise to the challenge, bringing solid chops, daring musical imagination and sabor to the work. Legendary upright bassist David P. Jackson's tasteful, melodic work moves the songs along with singing propulsiveness. Jackson's fiery accordion surges, reminiscent of Astor Piazzolla's bandoneon, further spice up the mix and David McKelvy's virtuoso harmonica is as sweetly American as Huckleberry Finn.

Most important of all, Joe's songwriting shines throughout, with elegantly turned lyrics, haunting melodies that will lodge themselves permanently in your subconscious and Latin rhythms that will have you tapping your feet till your toenails fall out.

One German reviewer said of this album, "Joe Lima ist hier ein Album gelungen, das man nicht so rasch vergisst." We think that says it all. "Joe Lima" is an album like no other you will hear this year. Buy it today!

Jere

A tasty morsel of hobo music
Four and 1/2 stars really. I almost found the nearest railroad track and hopped the train ! A fantastic blend of Joe's very cool voice and the mood of the music. Joe is kinda like Tom Waits once he gets out of the bar. Loved it !
