Trav'lin Man

by John A. Giurin

This song was inspired by all those road warriors wandering the highways and byways of this great land as they search for belonging, acceptance and, quite often, themselves.

Album Notes
I served as the Minister in Norval Ontario a number of years ago; Norval is a little village situated on a busy highway. The Church, and the Manse were right on the roadside and clearly visible to all who passed by. That meant that there were a lot of visitors who were just passing through and needed a little help.
My wife and I would do what we could. Sometimes we would welcome them in for a meal; sometimes we bought them bus tickets, sometimes we gave them food, and the odd time we would put them up at a local hotel for the night.
No matter what we did, I always made time to listen to their stories; over time a clear pattern of loss, brokenness and searching formed. Most of these folks were lost and seeking to find themselves no matter where the journey led them.
"Trav'lin Man" is a distillation of these stories. It's a song that is at once strange to us, yet in many ways vaguely familiar.
