Album Notes
The music on their debut release, 'Stepping Out', can be described captivating music in the Smooth Jazz vein. John plays the saxophone, keyboards, Akai EWI, Yamaha WX7, guitar and percussion. Julie plays keyboards, percussion and adds other instrumentation.

"We've been writing music together since 1989. After several years we decided to put out our own CD and after a lot of work 'Stepping Out' was born. It's been a long road with many twists and turns. The amazing thing to note is that we have done it ourselves with little help beyond our own abilities. And that is a great feeling" adds John and Julie.

"We believe our music is a clear reflection of who we really are and where we're coming from in life," says Julie. "We always approach the music from the heart of our life experiences" adds John. "We're expressing and sharing our innermost selves through our music. We view our music as a window into the soul of our marriage, which is all about inspiring continuous growth, acceptance, unity and lot's of love".

The music offers a sampling of John and Julies' visions. 'Stepping Out' and 'Loving You is Easy' both have very catchy melodies that stay with you long after they end. On 'Summer Sunshine' and 'Seek the way to fly' Johns sax playing soars to the uppermost heights of emotion. 'Just for you' is superb evidence of their free flowing heartfelt melodic sound. 'Thanks for all Your Love' is a medium tempo song that builds to an energetic climax.

On the Latin flavored 'The Significant People' the arrangement flows on the power of strong improvisations. 'Inside My Soul' is an up-tempo ballad that's filled with a lifting emotional spirit that speaks without words. Both 'White Rose' and 'Working from the Center' are cheerful upbeat songs with dynamic melodies and lush flowing arrangements. On 'Our Journey' you really feel like you're embarking on a journey of sorts, it has that cruising tempo and feel to it. 'Sharing life with you' is a very emotional ballad with strong interplay between sax and cello.

After listening to the music it is evident that John and Julie have a creative musical vibe happening. A blend of instrumental pop music that is both challenging and entertaining.

I think this CD is a very emotional one. It makes me really feel the music.
I love the first tune on this CD it is really uplifting. It makes feel like no matter happens today I will walk around with a smile on my face. I love John's big bright tone. He really knows how to solo. Summer Sunshine is a really sweet ballad. John really knows how to bring the sweetness out of his horn. All around a really nice CD. I really recomend this CD!!

You'll find the music to be exceedingly entertaining and relaxing.
Here, Julie Gaulke builds keyboard-centered "soundscapes", while John Gaulke solidifies their structure with his powerful tenor sax and some wind synthesizer. Both players add touches of percussion to shore the whole thing up, and throw in occasional windchimes and bells for a fondant-style decorative touch.

You can hear the dedication and effort that the Gaulkes throw into their songs, and that's what makes the music fun; they seem exuberant and athletic as they perform. Other than that, you'll find John and Julie's music to be exceedingly entertaining and relaxing. They'll add an extra jolt to your drink in a coffee bar on a rainy night, and are good enough to merit a steady stream of club bookings.
