ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"In the Wabe" is a collection of new music for bassoon and piano with some help from a cello and a typewriter. Most of it was composed at the moment in an improvised manner. The title of the CD is part of a line from Lewis Carroll's timeless poem "Jabberwocky" (track 3) from "Through the Looking Glass" wherein "the wabe" is described as the grass-plot round a sundial. Recorded in northern Spain, American bassoonist John Falcone is joined by pianists Larry Derdeyn (USA), Eduardo Salueña (Spain) and Adolfo Reisin (Argentina) along with cellist Isabel Baigorri (Spain) and multi-instrumentalist Pablo Canalis (Spain). The result is a fresh, exciting excursion through many dimensions of time and space "In the Wabe."

Composed works include "Jabberwocky Jam" and "Solo for Unaccompanied Bassoon" by John Falcone and have been published by TrevCo-Varner Music. "Termosifón" by Eduardo Salueña and "Yez una Máquina" by Pablo Canalis and J. Falcone are currently unpublished works. All other selections on this CD were created on the spot with little or no rehearsal.

Great CD!
This is a great CD!
When I listened to this CD I had to keep reminding myself that Falcone and the groups members were
all improvising. Not jazz, but a classical style of improvising rarely heard. You will be amazed at the skill level and artistic commitment of his work. I highly recommend this CD!
