Album Notes
The inspiration for this solo guitar suite came from Mr. Johnstone's time spent on Casco Bay in Maine. Numerous influences can be heard throughout the suite. Contemporary classical, jazz, folk, Celtic and rock styles blend seamlessly to create an original sound. The suite travels through different keys, dense and sparse textures and expressive moods. Melody is a prominent feature throughout the piece. Frequent time signature changes helps to keep the rhythmic flow unpredictable while retaining a natural feel. In Calendar Island Suite Mr. Johnstone offers the listener an experience that is passionate, moody, cinematic and unique in it's musical vision.

John Johnstone spends his time composing, performing and teaching guitar. He is on the guitar faculty of Bowdoin College and Portland Conservatory of Music. His previous compositions Five Pieces were favorably reviewed in SOUNDBOARD MAGAZINE.
