Album Notes
This is the first known recording ever of The Headwhiz Consort Moderne Internationale performing live with their good friend and longtime collaborator John McGrail. The exact location is not known but we believe it was recorded in Ireland during the Consorts tour of that country. The date would be have to be 1999 as that was the only time John has been in Ireland. He recalls performing with them and thinks it was near Galway although Mairead O’Connor, the Consorts keyboardist, thought it was somewhere around Dublin. Art Paisley,(Lambeg drum and Vocals) who hails from Northern Ireland, say he thought it was either Belfast or Sligo. The rest of the Consort members say they haven’t a clue. None the less with MC Projectile Vomit of The Chunks announcing them this is a recording for the ages.

Here are the words:

You Don’t Have To Take This 2x
They’re Dishing It Out 2x
You Don’t Have To Take This

They tell you to do things but they don’t tell you why
Would you like some candy is one of their cries
Makes me wonder what they’re going to try
And when they’re done will we be dead or alive dead or alive

Statements they dispatch they call the truth
Avoiding all our questions while remaining aloof
Have our eye’s changed or could it be the view
You say nothing’s different but we see the proof
We see the proof
There are some people who want control
I guess that is natural for those who are bold
Making it difficult for the poor young and old
If they have their way we will do as we’re told
We won’t do as we’re told

Masterful anthem of defiance
What a great recording of this rare live performance! I can easily imagine myself in the audience and the stellar musicians on stage combining their collective talents in a masterfully joyous ode to defiance. ‘They’re Dishing It Out’ is an anthem for our time., the refrain, ‘You don’t have to take this,’ an outcry against the growing inequality of our global Gilded Age. How fortunate that this Ireland-infused gem from 1999 was preserved. It’s as relevant now as it was then, maybe even more so. Download and enjoy!
