Album Notes
JOHN O'BRIEN is a singer-songwriter, performer, recording artist and screenplay author who has been playing and writing since he was a child. He has a catalogue of over 50 original songs and two screenplays adding more all the time. His original music is available on his web site as both MP3 downloads and Real Audio streaming formats. Screenplays are available in HTML.

He performs his music often in venues in the metropolitan New York area, including his performances with The Brujon Project at the C-Note Café in Manhattan and Baysiders Clam Bar at Ted's Marina in Point Lookout, NY. With the Brujon Project, John writes, performs and records with his longtime colleague, Bruce Wands. His latest recording projects can be heard on his web site. "The Brujon Project" CD, which was released in March of 1999, is available on, and and has been favorably reviewed. John is re-releasing his 1982 solo album, "Innocence" which has been re-mastered, digitized and will be released as "Then and Now". Innocence was a commercial success gaining a significant amount of airplay in his native Long Island. The re-release is scheduled for September with several new bonus tracks.

John is continuing to play and is booking performances to showcase his original music. For performance dates please e-mail to the address below or register on the CDs and Screenplays page on this site. He is also writing a score for a screenplay which is under consideration by several production studios. John has set up a state-of-the-art ProTools™ digital recording studio in his home which facilitates the continued production and distribution of his original music. The studio is fully equipped with midi, analogue capabilities and Digidesign and Sonic Foundry™ software. John is also willing to write on assignment for film studios, TV and video producers, and performing acts.

John's music career started with a band called The Norsemen in 1963 playing early rock Ôn roll. That act played in the area dominated by musicians from the famed Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and many of his early influences came from interactions with these musicians. In 1966, John joined the band The Infinity of Sound which played the music of the Fifth Dimension, Young Rascals and Jefferson Airplane among others. In 1968, he joined The Crystal Revelation which was a hard rock act playing Cream, Hendrix, Stones, Steppenwolf and other favorites of the day. In 1970 the act produced a successful single written by John gaining airplay in the upstate New York markets. That act played until 1973. After that John spent time as a solo act and began serious song writing. A number of the songs in his catalogue were written during this period. In 1976 John hooked up with Bruce Wands creating the very well known act Holy Smoke which was an acoustic duo playing throughout the New York City region, especially in the Hamptons summer scene. While there, they opened for several major acts including Twisted Sister. John also continued his solo act after Holy Smoke, playing many venues through Long Island.

John is now very seriously pursuing his songwriting career. "I have finally found the balance between performing and creativity, and between musical genres. My music is taking on a character that I am very proud of and I hope people will continue to listen to it and enjoy it." John is a member of ASCAP and the National Academy of Popular Music. He can be reached at P.O. Box 277, Point Lookout, NY 11569 and at (516) 431-5447. Fax 516-431-8576.

Original vocal styles accompanied by pleasant and listenable music.
I found John's covers of these original songs done in
pleasant and listenable styles. I rate the guitar runs
exceptionally good in Another Old Ang Syne and the
Christmas Song, and - all of the productions arranged,
balanced and mixed professionally. I particularly enjoyed John's vocals on the Sailors Christams and The River.

Well chosen compilation of songs for the season
This CD is super holiday music for parties, friends or just sitting by the tree relaxing. The music combines a number of grassroot American genres rooted in Rock. It is a timely tuneful offering for the season, especially this year when we all can use some uplifting and joy.
