Album Notes
John Pedersen is a keyboardist from California specializing in contemporary instrumental music. His CDs have showcased a variety of styles from smooth jazz to groove oriented electronica, with some solo piano thrown in for good measure.

His first album was "White Owl" (1997) followed by "Legend and Landscape" (2000), When Sun Broke Through (2002), "Paradise" in (2006) followed by a brand new release, "Groovidi", in 2007. An all digital release entitled, "2012", followed in 2010. To get fans updated, John released a total of three new albums in 2017. Spires and its followup, Spires II were released in May and August, respectively, and features a number of beautiful piano oriented songs along with some rock influenced jazz and chill out lounge electronica. John's 3rd album of the year, Origins - The Demos, came out in October and showcases some fantastic demo versions of tunes that would later appear on his albums. Two more wonderful projects have been released: In The Light (2018) and By The Sea (2019).

With all of its songs flowing together seamlessly in a current of continuity, "Paradise" is an enjoyable ride. In April 2006, it started receiving airplay on smooth jazz radio eventually receiving airplay on 58 radio and internet stations. On Washington, DC station WJZW, Al Santos played "Themes of Love" so frequently that it ended up being the number 7 song on Al's "Smooth Jazz Brunch" Top 100 tunes list for 2006. The most popular song from "Paradise", in terms of radio airplay, was "City Lights Below" followed by "Soul Mates". Even now, "City Lights Below" is getting airplay on such internet radio stations as, and Valiant Radio. "Soul Mates" and "Along the Path" have recently been featured on CHILL-OUT-LOUNGE specialty shows, such as Sandy Shore's "Smooth", WRFN's "The Future of Jazz" and Mark Stanley's Sound Traxx. Last summer, "Along the Path" and "Slippery Slide" were added to the playlist at Groovera's "Jet City Lounge" show. "Along the Path", fast becoming a timeless anthem of chilled-world-fusion, was also added to the lounge playlists of Mystic Age Radio, Dave's Lounge, XtraChill and Mark Stanley's "Sound Traxx". For the solo piano lovers out there, "Marina Sunset" and "Sherri" were both added to Piano World Radio. In early 2010, a remixed version of "Marina Sunset" with additional production and keyboards was released. Even today, "Paradise" has been receiving a lot of attention especially on Spotify and Pandora.

To promote this album, John first performed two concerts at Escondido's Westfield Mall (San Diego, California area) in May, 2006. Playing on a full concert grand piano, Mr. Pedersen won over many new fans. In September, 2007, a number of tunes from PARADISE were played at another concert in the San Diego area, this time at The Hot Java Cafe. PARADISE won over even more people at BORDERS shows in 2008.

During the recording of this album, John used a Baldwin Grand Piano, Korg Triton LE, Akai S-2000 sampler, Roland JV-1010, Alesis Nano Synth and the Alesis Nano Bass Synth.

As a developing musician, John became proficient in a number of genres from classical to rock, which is why his albums display such diversity. Working as a church organist for 29 years honed his ability to accompany choirs and singers, but a number of rock and country bands counterbalanced that by helping John develop a very upbeat and interesting style. It should be mentioned, that there is a continuity that prevails throughout his work in the form of clever and compelling melodies, as well as lush soundscapes that pad those melodies featuring piano, organ and state of the art synthesizers. Guest musicians on guitar and drums add another dimension to the mix.

Mr. Pedersen became interested in music during the early 70s after listening to such progressive rock musicians as Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Roger Powell and Patrick Moraz. Jazz fusion also captivated his interest through the artistry of Jan Hammer and Chick Corea. During the last decade John has added "smooth jazz" to his listening list, enjoying many great artists sch as: Najee, Paul Taylor, The Rippingtons, Boney James, Dave Koz, Bona Fide, Eric Darius and Brian Culbertson. He also has enjoyed modern pianists like Matt Bachrach and David Lanz.

Excellent instrumental smooth jazz CD. Pick up a copy today!
“Paradise” is a CD filled with tasteful instrumental tracks by John Pedersen. One listen to this CD and we were struck by the excellent musicianship. Prevalent throughout the CD is tasteful and musically challenging piano and keyboard work. The CD kept our interest by not only including a number of up-tempo mainly keyboard and/or synthesizer tracks, but also mixed in some softer piano tracks and some full band smooth jazz tracks as well. Our favorite tracks include the up-tempo “City Lights Below” with its excellent guitar and keyboard solos and bass break, all backed by an excellent groove. The title track is another one of our favorite tracks, with its strong synthetic beat and neat synthesizer work. If you enjoy smooth jazz, or listening to a keyboard/piano virtuoso, you will enjoy this CD. Pick up a copy today!
