ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
True to form, John R. Black’s music finds the soul behind the statistics. This time, he turns his attention from Vietnam to gun violence in the United States. After the racially-motivated mass shooting in El Paso, TX, John wrote the song “El Paso” to speak out against hatred and promote peace.

As two-tour Vietnam veteran, John understands the impact that war and violence had on an entire generation of Americans. Now, at age 79, John sees today’s politicians demonstrating a similar ambivalence to the lives lost in mass shootings that politicians in the 60s and 70s showed towards the lives of American soldiers deployed in Vietnam.

The message of John’s song is clear: Americans must be able to walk out their door without fear. Mass shootings must end. Politicians must be willing to do what it takes to protect their citizens from gun violence.
