Album Notes
John Rietcheck was born in Oakley, Kansas, a small farm community in the northwest part of the state. He grew up in a loving family with his parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters. As a young child he loved to listen to his mother play the piano. And he constantly sang to songs on the radio or to himself.
John didn’t realize he had true talent for singing until his high school choir director took him aside, told him he had the potential to be a good singer, and offered to give him private voice lessons. The lessons were invaluable as he learned to breathe properly and get the best tone quality from his voice.
A short time later, despite his inability to read a note of music, he was given the opportunity to sing solo parts in several large and small choral works, including masses by classical masters. He received top honors for solos in state music festival competitions and from civic organizations.
John went on to study voice in college and perform in several opera, musical comedy, and paid summer stock productions. Although he did not pursue music as a profession, John continued to sing in various genres and venues, including a short stint with a rock band, folk music at pubs, and at conferences around the country. He began writing songs in his early 20s and has continued to the present.
In recent years he has performed all across the U.S. and in Europe for both small and large audiences. His first album, Listen With Your Heart, was released in 1999.
John lives and works in San Francisco as a clinical audiologist at the VA Medical Center. He loves his work serving veterans. Each day he sings, shares humor, and helps his patients improve their quality of life via their communicative listening skills. This, in turn, also enhances their overall enjoyment of music.
