ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Johnson Party’s “RANDOM ROOMS” is titled so because it has indeed been recorded in a wide array of different “rooms” over 5 ½ years. To be accurate, some were not rooms in the traditional sense. There was the session in the forest on the banks of a wilderness stream in the North Georgia Mountains, miles & miles from electricity. There were sessions in a converted chicken coop studio in Idaho. There were recordings made in dilapidated apartments, government assisted housing units, steamy cramped rented rehearsal spaces, a gymnasium, state of the art studios, a mansion, condos, cabins and living rooms. Travels stretched from California to South Carolina, from Georgia to Idaho, Wyoming and beyond. A variety of mobile technologies were used, a huge range of instruments and many voices. To find inspiration, and for good fun, work on the project was interspersed with many a misadventure in the natural world - the canoe trip through hundreds of alligators into the heart of the Okeefenokee Swamp, the 23 day whitewater river run down the throat of the Grand Canyon, winter backcountry ski exploration in Wyoming, public nudity on the streets of New Orleans, etc… We hope some of the energy from those excursions was captured in song. We are so stoked with this release and hope you thoroughly enjoy!
