Album Notes
While hailing from Long Island, New York, John Carey's songs are heard world-wide. John has been influenced by dozens of different songwriters and performers. John’s earliest influence was Rick Nelson but the first song that he wrote when he was 12 year old had a very strong Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) influence. John still credits the songs of Brian Wilson as the driving force that kindled his undying passion for songwriting. A few years later, singer songwriters such as James Taylor, Jim Croce, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Joel and Jimmy Buffet caught his attention and continued to fuel John’s passion for writing. The diversity of John Carey’s many musical influences has culminated in the creation of a sound and style that is clearly his own.

John has called New York, Arizona, Texas and California his home. He spent some of his early days in the music business playing guest sets with his music mentor and friend, (the late) Vernon Wray at the Plaza Hotel in Tucson, Arizona. Vernon was a songwriter and record producer who often recorded with his brother Link Wray. Link’s band was known as Link Wray and his Ray Men. John strongly suggests that you Google Link Wray, Vernon Wray and Doug Wray. All three brothers are distinguished in their own right. The Wray family has made significant contributions to the world of music.

John holds Legendary Long Island songwriters such as Billy Joel, Jimmy Webb, and the late Harry Chapin in the highest esteem.

John truly loves listening to all kinds of music, whether it is the big band music of the 30’s and 40’s or the doo wop music of the 50’s and early 60’s. From bluegrass to country, gospel and soul, John’s music influences are extremely varied. However; he always values songs that possess a powerful and well crafted lyric and melody.

John Carey’s music is easily recognized by all who have heard his recordings.
