Album Notes
A unique approach to the identity of large ensemble jazz is taken in this project. The traditional big band is changed with the presence of two French horns, and just two saxes and two trombones.

Bigband-Hommage an Oliver Nelson
Die meisterhafte Einspielung „The Blues and the Abstract Truth“ von 1961 (mit u.a. Freddie Hubbard, Eric Dolphy, Bill Evans) katapultierte den Saxophonisten Oliver Nelson(1932-1975) in den Olymp der Jazzkomponisten und –arrangeure. Trompeter John Vanore, ein jugendlicher Freund von Nelson, widmet sich in einer Hommage seinem musikalischen Vorbild. Mit einer aus Topmusikern der New York Szene besetzten Bigband erkundet, erweitert und vertieft Vanore Nelsons bluesgetränkten Ansatz. Die CD wird in der Fachpresse mit höchstem Lob bedacht.
