Album Notes
Before achieving fame as founder and one half of the classy 60's hearthrob recording duo "The Walker Brothers", John Walker was a Hollywood Rocker and Blueser. His creative spirit always had it's roots firmly planted in the music of Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Gospel, and Elvis Presley.

Mr. Walker's prolific songwriting and recording career began in the mid 50s; indeed, he was writing songs right up to the week that he passed away on May 7, 2011. With love and it's many themes as his constant guide, Mr. Walker left a legacy of traditional and classic sounding songs that are easy on the ears, and welcome to the heart - always familiar, always full of soul.

Produced by Mr. Walker's wife, Cynthia, "Golden Dreams" is a collection of 10 of his self-penned songs chosen ..."in memory of my beloved husband, who is singing with the angels." Included are the previously unreleased title track "Golden Dreams", and "Hold On" - the last studio song that Mr. Walker recorded just a month before his passing. Her goal was to present a collection which showcases the uniqueness of John Walker - the man, the guitarist, the singer: gentle and skilled, strong and powerful, wise, world weary, hopeful, joyous. Here is a group of tracks with enough variety to do exactly that. Mr. Walker's distinctive raspy voice is somehow suited for the tenderest ballads ("The Ballad"), the blues ("My Destiny"), as well as rock inspired tracks ("Love's Blind", "Sweet Dreams"). Tony Blackburn, the legendary UK radio announcer once said, "John's voice has a lovely huskiness about it, and we can somehow hear that he is a very sensitive person who feels the words he is singing."

Renowned mixing and mastering engineers, Michael James (IndieProMix) and David Donnelly (DNA Mastering Studios) have taken John's own magical productions to a new level of modern sound technology.

Always tasteful, always masterful, Mr. Walker's brilliant guitar playing is also a notable feature on many of the tracks, particularly throughout "My Destiny" (track 8), "Golden Dreams" (track 1), "Love's Blind" (track 3), "Sweet Dreams" (track 4), and his last recording "Hold On" (track 9); characteristically understated and intense are the solos at the end of "Shadow of Night" (track 7) and in the powerful spiritual "The Promise" (track 10).

The first and title track, "Golden Dreams", as well as track 7 "The Shadow of Night" are best described as country ballads, each worked and reworked over a few years time, resulting in these memorable gems..

Track 2, "Come Back To My Arms", is a sweet honky tonk love song; track 6 is the beautiful " I Can't Let You Go", soulful easy listening for grown up s. "Love's Blind" and "Sweet Dreams" are harder driving sing alongs; in contrast is the tender track 4 - "The Ballad".

"Hold On" and "The Promise" are in a category all their own. "Hold On" was written and recorded during the last months of Mr. Walker's battle with cancer. It is a fragile and bittersweet presentation of a spiritual message that he was determined to leave as part of an end of life statement. "The Promise", Mr. Walker's powerful spiritual ballad written and recorded within a two day period in fall 2007, is a sincere testimony of this humble, gentle man's strong faith.
