ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Unabashedly joyful, unashamedly playful, Jonah Luke’s music is pure sunshine. In a world of predictable pop, this Portland, OR-based singer-songwriter crafts innovative folk-rock with sweet harmonies and dashes of a capella. At only 24, Jonah has played major stages, including premier music venues like Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, Chicago’s Millennium Park and The Metro, and he has opened for acclaimed acts such as Joe Purdy and Chris Robley & the Fear of Heights.

Jonah’s debut, the I Don’t Need You To Know EP, has had fantastic success for a record with modest origins. The EP was recorded in a college dorm room and self-released, first finding an audience in Jonah’s two hometowns of Chicago and Portland, and then beyond through radio play and word of mouth. The stripped-down acoustic songs feature Jonah’s love of a capella and vocal harmony, flavored with only guitar and percussion. The resulting mix has a truth, authenticity, and joy that is rare among today’s singer-songwriters.

Music has been the bedrock of Jonah’s life since early childhood. Growing up on Chicago’s North Side, Jonah grew up on a diet of funk, Cajun, and Paul Simon’s Graceland played on repeat. As a child he learned to sing as well as play drums, guitar, piano, and trombone. Jonah started playing drums in a Cajun Zydeco band at age 11, and soon followed that with stints in several rock bands, an a cappella group, and a trombone choir.

Jonah relocated to Portland to attend Lewis & Clark College, where after graduation he put down musical roots. He can now be found playing live throughout the Northwest both solo and with vocalist Annie Fassler.

Jonah is also an accomplished recording engineer, producer and session musician, having appeared on 16 studio albums, including two with producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine).

Jonah's first full-length album, Finding a Way Home, with producer Peter Rodocker (Tyler Stenson), will be out in Spring 2013 with tour dates to follow.
