Album Notes
This is my first collection of songs, so they are full of music and lyrics that have been waiting to get expressed for a long, long time. Because I was the lead singer and played 95% of the instruments on the tracks, I had total freedom to create the music exactly as I felt was necessary to express the feelings and story lines of each tune. As the recording studio was in my home, I had unlimited time to record over and over again until I got exactly what I wanted, and I am really happy with the result. You'll find a lot of variety in this CD - some tracks have multiple layers of instrumentation and backup singers, one track is simply voice and Celtic harp, and another track is for instruments and choir (the choir is actually my voice recorded many times, plus one female voice. The tune "YK Profile" is 100% ambient sounds that I collected with a digital recorder. The single cover tune, by Cajun songwriter Zachary Richard, is in French.

I wrote the nine songs within two years of the CD's release, and they reflect my experiences and love of the Canadian Arctic, which is still a wild and unpredictable place to live. "Twelve Bar Blues" is about the down-to-earth craziness that happens in bars and at parties that I have witnessed as a gigging musician, and "Pack of Lies" addresses the transient quality of beliefs and ideas. Some of the lyrics draw from what I call the 'speculative imagination', so the songs contain occasional references to spirituality and the unfolding of human awareness against the backdrop of an unfathomable universe; "No Eclipse", the choir piece, is the best example of this type of song.

I put a lot into this CD; I hope you get something out of it!
