Winter Moods

by Jon O'Bergh

Imagine relaxing by the window with a cup of hot chocolate or a latte, gazing out on a winter landscape. The smell of wood smoke as white wisps curl skyward in the still air. A magenta-lavendar sky and the hush of twilight. These soothing, intimate nocturnes for solo piano evoke the moods of winter. With titles like “Fireside,” “First Snow,” “Winter Woods,” “Northern Lights,” and “The Snow Rose,” this album is the ideal musical companion for the season.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Imagine relaxing by the window with a cup of hot chocolate or a latte, gazing out on a winter landscape. The smell of wood smoke as white wisps curl skyward in the still air. A magenta-lavendar sky and the hush of twilight. Jon O'Bergh’s new album of intimate solo piano music, “Winter Moods,” captures these moments with his inimitable style. The album features "Snow Day," filled with a graceful lyricism; “Winter Woods,” a contemplative walk through quiet woods; and the dramatic “Ice Storm.” Other evocative titles include “Fireside,” “Twilight,” “Afterglow,” and “The Snow Rose.”

Why the return to solo piano for this stylistically diverse artist who has written music ranging from jazz to spoken word to world beat? O’Bergh says his goal was to create an album of nocturne-like tunes where beauty emerges from simplicity and subtly shifting moods. “I was inspired by the soft tranquility of falling snow and the intimacy of nightfall in winter,” he says. Each song is a simple gem that collectively create a deep sense of serenity.
