Let There Be Life

by Joseph Lee Hooker

Both an inspirational nudge and a gentle teaching tool, "Let There Be Life" has saved many unborn lives. Do you know someone who might benefit from a listen? A potential dad or mom, student or co-worker who has bought into the "my body" lie of abortion?

Album Notes
Subject: Thank you for “Let There Be Life”!
Dear Joseph Lee Hooker;

I wanted to share a story with you regarding the power of the music on your CD, “Let There Be Life”.

This letter is also a gentle reminder to do everything we can, especially to use our God-given talents and our personal experiences to defend life. The Scriptures say, "Do not stand idly by while your brother's life is at stake."

A few years ago, as the Respect Life Contact for my parish, I was asked by our priest to contact a woman who had called the rectory in crisis. Her daughter's friend was pregnant, and her mother “K” had scheduled an abortion at Planned Parenthood for Friday. It was Monday.

A couple frightening days passed with no direct contact with the young mother in crisis. I returned to my pastor to tell him of my frustration, as he had requested I keep him informed. I asked for his blessing to go visit the mother K, and he agreed.

I took three roses to give to K, one for herself, one for her daughter in crisis and one for her pre-born grandchild. On inspiration, I also took a CD out of my car that I had been given on the recent March for Life in WDC by Joseph Lee Hooker, “Say Yes to Life”, (later re-released digitally by the title "Let There Be Life"). I had listened to it many times, and heard beautiful songs about life and also reminders of the utter coldness of the violent death by abortion. Included on the CD was a witness by Bridget Hylak who had journeyed through this life and death experience with her mother and father, and survived, praise God, to eventually forgive, honor, and cherish them both.

I arrived at K's workplace, gave her the roses and tried to make the pre-born child real to her. I also described the horrors of abortion as I understood them. I presented the CD to her and could see the almost alarmed look on her face that something like that even existed! I tried to be gentle, and could see that she was starting to find it difficult to hide from the truth. She agreed to talk with her daughter, but I knew that she was the one who scheduled the abortion. So, uniting with other pro-lifers, I assembled a pro-life gift bag for her, which I gave to my contact in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. I asked people to pray.

I didn't get a call until early that Friday afternoon that the abortion was cancelled to the glory of God! Three years later I received a call from my contact that the young mother wanted to thank me. The most important fact is that the precious life was saved, and the souls of those involved remained intact. In this case, the young mother married the father of the baby, and they have given birth to a second son at the time of this writing. They are thrilled that they decided to "Let There Be Life" and thankful for the help they received on the way! Your music is an instrument of ministry. Thank you for giving me a tool I needed to be part of a miracle.

With thanksgiving to God,
