ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Be Still and Know is an inspirational song of faith by one of Joshua's greatest musical influences: Steven Curtis Chapman. Mandolin player Scott Simontacchi joins Joshua in the studio with heartfelt turns on mandolin and beautiful backing vocals.

Son of a Texas/Arkansas carpenter/preacher, Joshua Payne began playing and singing gospel in the church at a very young age. Christian artists like Steven Curtis Chapman, Russ Taff, The Gaithers, Michael W. Smith, Michael English, TRUTH, and others were among the first early influences of Joshua's melodic style of music. In "Be Still and Know" Joshua reaches back and gently touches hands with his loving, lasting roots.

"It's been nearly a year since this tune was commissioned. A wonderful and very patient lady from Birmingham, Alabama (believer, and believer in my work) asked me to record and cover the incredible "Be Still and Know" by Steven Curtis Chapman, and then went further, commissioning the work and paying for licensing.

After a year of thought and then some determination as to how I would approach this very special song and somehow make it my own, I can finally say, I am pleased with the outcome and want to thank again this wonderful gal who blessed and honored me by commissioning the piece. She asked me not to mention her by name, but in returning the honor in some way, I hope this finished work will do just that.

I'd also like to thank my dear friend Scott Simontacchi for joining me in the studio, singing background vocals and playing those wonderful heartfelt turns on the mandolin. His loving work absolutely makes the song as far as I'm concerned."
