Album Notes
Classically trained pianist from the age of 6, Joy Britt Reavis began composing for solo piano at 10. Joy was encouraged to perform as a way to overcome childhood shyness, and has since performed at universities, competitions, and regular live engagements.

STATE OF JOY combines two of her lifelong loves: playing classical piano, and the state she calls home - North Carolina.

Blending field recordings from across North Carolina with original compositions for solo piano, Joy Britt Reavis has created an audio journey for your relaxation and enjoyment. You will hear native birds, soothing ocean waves, a gently flowing brook, cascading water over the wheel of a restored grist mill, a horse pulling a vintage carriage through Old Salem, and much more.

As you travel from the beaches of Beaufort to the high country of the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains, explore and celebrate the diversity and wonder of North Carolina.

Wonderful synergy of piano and nature
I've been a big fan of this type of music for years, and it's refreshing to hear such a clever mix of solo piano and ambient sounds of nature. The songs are easy to listen to for pure relaxation, but they also demonstrate a complexity after repeated listening sessions that hint at a deeper artistry than most of the music in this genre. I look forward to hearing more music from Joy Britt Reavis.

The Perfect Gift
Though all musicians are united as kindred spirits by their choice of instrument, the stylistic and thematic diversity on the album is expressed with great personal style and individuality.
If you love solo piano music, this new album by Joy Britt Reavis is a release worthy of your time and money. Even for persons less familiar with the specialized solo piano category of music and want an introductory album, I ask you; why not begin with the best!
