ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Who is JSS?

He is an artiste who has graced many stages, a hybrid redolent of soul, pop, rock, blues and R&B influenced by luminaries such as Queen, Prince and Sam Cooke and a man who has proved, across the years that he can deliver all these genre well.

For many years JSS has been known to all and sundry as 'Jeff Scott Soto'. In a career spanning more than twenty years, beginning as the vocalist for guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen leading to frontman for many bands including; 'Talisman', the legendary 'Journey', 'Soul SirkUS' and most recently 'Trans-Siberian Orchestra'. In 2002 he set out on the long, arduous road of a solo career with the acclaimed 'Prism' and has released two solo albums since then, 'Lost In The Translation' and this forthcoming one 'Beautiful Mess'. He came to the notice of many in the industry when he provided the lead vocals for the main character / singer of 'Steel Dragon' in the Mark Wahlberg motion picture 'Rock Star. With an audience that comes from Europe, Asia, South America and North America, his appeal is about to be widened further with this new release.

In 'Beautiful Mess', for which Jeff Scott Soto has become 'JSS' he blends the influences he grew up loving into one ‘beautiful mess’ indeed. From the rocking soul of "21st Century" to the sultry "Gin & Tonic Sky" to the greasy funk of "Bring It Home" to the Beatle-esque “Kick It”, JSS leaves no stone unturned in this release, pleasing fans old & new alike. 'Beautiful Mess', which is co-written & produced by the savvy Swedish artist/producer/writer Paulo Mendonça, is a turning point for JSS who recently dubbed by many as the ‘new hardest working man in show business’ & this new album will find him touring the globe once again through 2009.

If you like the bite of Lenny Kravitz, the sultriness of Seal, the smoothness of Sam Cooke & the rawness of the nostalgic 70’s rock ‘n soul all mixed with a contemporary touch of today’s hit music, this is one not to be missed!!

Funk Rock!
Love it, love it, love it. One of the finest albums I have heard in years! An infusion of genres and influences that go way beyond any expectations of this artist. In the days when radio was where the latest \'happening\' music was sort, these highly commercial tracks deserve airplay and broadcast to the masses.

Excellent and Very Impressive
This is one of the most well-rounded and exciting releases of the year thus far. I've always like Jeff's vocals and listened to some of his stuff but I was never a hard-core fan...until now that is. After hearing "Tesify", I was blown away and had a feeling this album was going to be fantastic - and it is. Jeff shows he is far more versatile than the hard, melodic rock he is known for. This release has elements of melodic rock, but also features some excellent pop songs and even R&B. And he makes it all work. These are songs with meaning, as evidenced in the lyrics. You can tell a lot of time was spent crafting these songs. From the slow burning "Gin & Tonic Sky" to pop/rock anthems like "Hey", it all gels together. The epic ballad "Broken Man" is a very deep song lyrically that fits the melody perfectly. And of course, there's the amazing "Testify" which is a classic pop/rock confection. This should be a smash on rock radio. There are many, many good hooks on this album that will reel listeners in. It should also be mentioned that Jeff's vocals are superb. He is notorious for his high and hard delivery, yet this album shows another side of his voice. He sings the songs, in a more natural register. It fits the songs perfectly. He proves here that he's not just a high-note novelty. This is a singer-songwriter at his best, proving that he can handle various styles and master them. I am very pleased with this album and I highly recommend it to all pop/rock fans who like big hooks, great melodies and great voculs. It has it all. Don't miss this one.

Beautiful
The album JSS fans have waited for! Beautiful Mess is an assortment of pop, funk, soul, and soft rock with a little of the JSS signature edge thrown in for good measure! Fresh, current and real, Beautiful Mess is a testament to the vocal command that JSS possesses. The years that JSS has spent building his craft and perfecting his delivery is clearly evident with each track. The songs are beautifully written, harmonically sound and lyrically provocative. Gin and Tonic Sky is a soulful ballad imparting a mellow sensuality. Hey takes us to a fun place where we can kick back with our friends and just chill, worry free. Mountain stands out as raw, funky and edgy for the rocker in us. All in all, Beautiful Mess fits in perfectly with today’s climate of soulful pop. It’s listenable and likable, as is JSS, the man himself.
