ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Pahayokee:A Plea for Life combines natural sounds with dramatic music and singing in a fervent call to save the Everglades. The Everglades are dying and Pahayokee asks us all to cry out to save the glades as the frogs, birds and insects call out their songs in their struggles to survive ever-increasing human encroachment and environmental degradation. A Plea for Life presents six songs which explore the relationship between the most elemental substance of all, water, and the life and death of the glades. Opera singer John Boehr sings about and with the sounds and rhythms of the glades. John's voice cries out like a red-shouldered hawk greeting a new dawn in the Pinelands after a lightning fire. The music of Jack Tamul creates a nature opera- a dynamic score that tells the true story of the future of the Everglades like the sounds of green tree frogs announcing a new mating season. Piano by David Boehr is like the first raindrops of the wet season-the begining of the annual thunderrains that bring life to the glades. A Plea for Life is a hopeful plea and sincere request that we save an environment like no other in the world-what the Miccosukees call Pa-Ha-Yo-Kee, grassy waters and the place Marjory Stoneman Douglas named The River of Grass.
