Album Notes
My name...is Jubel (pronounced Jew-bell). It's actually a nickname that stuck. I'm of Filipino descent and my mother took my two grandmothers' names and put them together and created Jubel. If I actually used my given name on this site, there wouldn't be any room left on this page...I have five names to be exact. I answer to almost anything though. Once someone called my house and asked for Gerbil (like...ya know, the hamster), and then there's Jezebel. When my mom was ready to give me a spanking as a child she would yell (she's an opera singer, so it was really loud) all five of my names really fast. It was scary. But I really love my name now because....it's different. How many Jubels do you know? (Not counting the German Beer...there really is a beer named Jubel!)

I am a singer songwriter chick! I use the word chick cause it sounds less intimidating than broad, and it's more fun! Although I do aspire to someday be a broad (i.e. Bette Midler, Cher, Wynonna), in my estimation, I've still got some work to do. I am a child of the 70s and 80s and cut my musical teeth on the likes of Queen (huge fan!), Styx (I wanted to be Tommy Shaw's Hair!), Linda Rondstat (the Jerry Brown years) and disco (I admit it...after years of being in denial). Donna Summer (another cool broad) made me want to be the next diva of the world when I was a little girl. And here's a really big secret....I love Donny and Marie! I've been told I sound a lot like...well...myself. Just kidding.

Seriously, I am a pop princess at heart, but with dramatic tone, and strong lyrics based on everyday life. I love the simplicity of a great pure lyric, and being swept away by a beautiful melody. I'm like a lot of people out there who have had dreams of being a big recording star, but never had the opportunity to try (for whatever reason). So, I worked two jobs, sang in a recording studio at 2 o'clock in the morning, saved every nickel to hire the coolest musicians, and wrote songs in my car on my way to work. It sure feels good to finish something and hold it in your hand. I really appreciate anybody who has gone through the process of finishing an album's worth of music. So click on to some of the songs and listen for yourself.

It's hard to define all the things that I can do. My mother used always say not to be a "jack of all trades, master of none." So I prefer to be a jack of all trades trying to master life! I love to be busy, I love people and I love observing people. I would say that I am a singer/ songwriter/ performer/ choreographer/ actress! Try to say that in one breath! But really, I'm a everything kind-a-girl! I really get a rush from all aspects of music, performing, people ... you name it!

I can't clean my house, I'm a really limited cook (eggs, rice...and bacon. I can basically cook breakfast). BUT if you needed a song in two days, if you have a show, and you need a choreographer, if your looking for a music, or a specific CD (preferably from the 70's) , or need a singer who can learn something in ten minutes...I'm the girl to call!

I'm also the world's biggest Broadway Musical fan. I spent ten years doing musical theater and just love everything about it. Unfortunately, they just don't write too many musicals for Asian girls with big boobs (did I mention those?), and there were only 1.2 million of us who tried out for Miss Saigon. I remain one of the many people who get our kicks out of doing regional theater for the joy and the love of the stage. I'm lucky to have been able to use my experience in theater for so many years to teach others and influence young people to study and learn everything about musical theater. I'm proud to say that I have taught over 500 students in the past ten years in voice, dance, music and performance. It has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I never get tired of any of it. I learn something everyday about myself as a performer, singer, teacher.

What I really seek out in life is to be around people who are passionate about the same things. I love singing with a band of musicians who love to play and create. I get such a rush from collaborating with other artists, whether it's a musical, a song, a dance ... whatever.

I think I'm happiest when I'm creating something. The brainstorming, the problem solving. I like the pressure. I think I'm better under pressure. It's definitely the traveling down the bumpy road that I enjoy. That's what I love about writing music. How to take the simplest things in life, and use it in a song. It's the everyday things in life that are interesting. Espcially when communicated with music.

So what I do is.... a little bit of everything.... but never half heartedly, and always with a sense of humor!
