Album Notes
Jug Band Music Done Saved My Soul:

What do you get when you blend jazz, blues, and ragtime with washboards, washtubs, kazoos, jugs and various other sundry hardware? Nothing less than a strange concoction called the Juggernaut Jug Band. Based out of Louisville, Kentucky, the Juggernauts have proudly kept early twentieth century jug music alive and well since 1965, when four high school lads discovered jug band music made them feel just fine!

The Juggernaut Jug Band has had an impressive roster of musicians joining Roscoe Goose since their inception in 1965. Over the years, they have appeared with Leon Russell, Arlo Guthrie, John Hartford, Jonathan Edwards, Riders In the Sky, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Tom Paxton, to drop a few names.

Just so you know, they have played The Kentucky State Fair, Delta Queen River Boat, Caesars, Grand Victoria and Argosy Casinos, Master Musicians Festival, Kent State Folk Festival, Great American Music Fest (Branson, MO), Blissfest, MI, Henderson Pavilion, NV, National Jug Band Jubilee, Churchill Downs, KY Strawberry Folk Fest, Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, Las Vegas Jazz Festival, Dollywood, Millennium Center, B.C. Canada, Chautaugua Institution (NY), Tahoe Music Festival (NV), ArtsQuest (PA), and appeared in 'As you Like It', Actors Theatre, Louisville, KY.

While members of the band are accomplished musicians, 'They don't let virtuosity get in the way of having fun.' - The Washington Post

The Juggernauts bring to the table a sense of fun, whimsy and an appreciation for the weirder things in our collective past. And it doesn't hurt that they can totally rock out on a washtub bass. - Palm Beach Post

The Juggernaut Jug Band was a big hit. They are so friendly (probably why they were immediately engulfed by the crowd). Our people enjoy performers who will talk to them and these guys were tops. We would pick them again."- Joe Cansler, President, Community Concerts, Statesville, North Carolina.

Who We Be Now:

Some years ago The AMAZING Mr. Fish was released from his mortal coil into the mystic. And though Jug Band Music Devotees the world over aspire to follow the Way of the Wing-ged Jug to that Great Gig in the Sky, in the meantime, the Juggernaut Jug Band was bereft of our beloved washtub bassist. Roscoe Goose understood that he must someday, somehow, somewhere find someone who possessed the same rare and seemingly useless talent.

Then, Dr. Don, a Juggernauts founder, singer/songwriter, lead guitarist and the only one who could make his signature cartoon sound effects with his lips, followed Mr. Fish into the mystic.

Roscoe became increasingly despondent and eventually sequestered himself in an old farm root cellar where resonating with the unfathomable vibrations, echoing and emanating from his trusty jug, he entered a trance-like alternate state of consciousness allowing him to commune across the Cosmos with the Mystical Spirits who empower those seeking the Way of the Jug and imbue the chosen few with the odd ability to make loud thumping noises using nothing more than a washtub, a piece of rope and a hand rail.

And the Mystical Spirits spoke unto Roscoe, saying "Why are you bothering us? You live in Louisville! Louisville is the birth place of Jug Band Music! Louisville is the cradle of Jug Band Music where it has been nourishing and flourishing for generations! Get outta here and go find some folks right in your own back yard!"

The Juggernaut Jug Band embraces Kentucky's heritage by keeping jug band music alive across the commonwealth and beyond.

Every performance is a challenge to the audience: Let your inner jug take wing and join in the exuberant antics!
