ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In this, "bardic experience of music, poetry and dance", Jules created and arranged a breath taking musical journey and timeless experience, that brings you in contact with the spirit of the celtic music.

Advise : visit Jules website http://www.whistle-flute.com for high (cd) quality demo-mp3's and more interesting info about this and other cd's he made, and about Whistle Basics : a complete audio-visual tin whistle method he made recently.

Jules Bitter is a well known and respected musician (whistle/flute/bodhrán) and has a teaching practise for whistle and concert flute in the Netherlands: www.fluitpraxis.com His unique and sensitive way of playing whistle and flute can be heard on his CDs: ‘Druid Dance‘, ‘Nehalennia Suite’ and ‘The Hill of Women’. About 1980 he started to play as a street musician in Antwerp (Belgium) and there he played at late night pubsessions with musicians that also made a career in Irish music : Thomas Keenan, brother of piper Paddy Keenan, Kieran Fahey and Helen Flaherty (Shantalla) Rudi Velghe and Gerard Hirsch (Orion) and Philip Masure (Comas). As a studio- and guest musician, he has contributed to several other CD productions and many concerts, and he’s ‘gigged’ with befriended musicians (‘Finglas’) until 2008. He has visited Ireland many years, and both his contribution to ‘Irish Trad’ and his affiliation
with Irish music and Celtic culture is much appreciated there. Since 1983 he’s been involved in the Antwerp music scene as participant and initiator of Irish sessions; and for 5 years, he was a whistle tutor for the Dutch Foundation of Folk music (SVN).
He made a radio documentary for Dutch Radio (VPRO) about the Irish Bronze Age horns, as well
as one about Nehalennia, a local deity of Germano-Celtic origin. Jules has also contributed to a documentairy on the bronze cauldrons of Brittany: ‘Les Chaudrons de Bretagne’, and he recorded the sounds of the last 4 Westerschelde ferries.
With these unique recordings, the radiophonic composition ‘Zwanezang op de Westerschelde’
was made, which won First Prize at the Palmares Phonurgia Nova (Arles/France/2003).

Druid Dance
Absolutely brilliant! The musicianship on the entire album is superb, from flute and harp to guitar to bouziki, violin and bodrahn, etc. The styles and tempo of the music vary and this keeps the interest. Great interpretations of Irish music. If you need to have one track to convince you, listen to Roisin Dubh - beautiful. Another 5-star effort is Mulqueeny's. Jules and his comrades are a great band.

Druid Dance
Fantastic album by a fantastic group of musicians led by the talented Mr. Bitter!! This has a rich mix of styles and tempo and so you'll never be bored or feel that it's all the same. In addition to the masterful flute and whistle playing of Bitter, the harp, bouzouki, violin, accordeon, and drums blend in so smoothly that it is only after a couple of plays you realise that these other guys are masters in their own right.
5 stars for Roisin Dubh...so beautiful. But the whole album is pure class.

Wonderful collection of traditional Celtic music of many moods
I stumbled across this CD while looking for a recorded version of the centuries-old Irish rebel song after which my daughter was named. Impressed with the instrumental interpretation, I sampled the whole CD and couldn't wait to add it to my collection. If you're a fan of traditional Celtic music of many moods - heartfelt ballads, spinning reels, and songs of mournful longing - this is a gem you'll enjoy over and over. The sounds from nature - rain, bird song, thunder - sprinkled effectively throughout the album make one feel as if the music is presented in an outdoor theater, rain or shine, with the sounds of the land adding a sense of place to these timeless songs.

A bewitching trip down celtic memory lane
At first I got to say that I´m technically not able to give as many stars as I would like to.

The music on this Cd is able to take you to a delightful excursion to celtic spirit on its best. Not only the lively tune but the manifoldness of the inconvenient instrument sounds is extremely impressive.

It creates an enchanted, cheerful mood... ...my very best compliments !
