ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“I was fortunate enough to have purchased a pre-release copy of Julie July’s Album and want to strongly recommend that everyone here listen to it on its official release. This is not an album of cover versions. It is Julie July backed by a very capable aggregate of musicians reinterpreting eleven Sandy Denny songs (+”Quiet Joys of Brotherhood” by Richard Farina) in a very effective and frankly emotional manner. Right from the opening of The North Star Grassman and the Ravens. I recognised this is Julie July bringing both her artistic talents and her life experiences to express a deeply personal and creative view on Sandy’s songs, the album allows the listener to gain a different perspective on Sandy’s work through hearing Julie July make a strong case for Sandy Denny as one of the most important female British songwriters of the second half of the 20th Century.

Darren Johnson (Music Journalist fRoots) “I salute the July Julie Band for their dedication in keeping Sandy Denny’s music alive. Both their live performances and this album do justice to her enormous legacy. As a devoted Sandy fan there’s absolutely nothing not to love on this gorgeous and heartfelt album. Really enjoyed this album – do buy it people!’.

John O’Regan (Music Journalist) “fabulous album check-it out when it comes out deserves every success.”

The Julie July Band has built a substantial reputation on re-interpretations of Sandy Denny’s songs and play a heartfelt tribute to the great singer-songwriter. In her brief Career she left a legacy of beautiful, haunting original and traditional compositions. Richard Thompson called her ‘The Greatest artist of her generation”. Melody maker readers twice voted her ‘Best British Female Singer” in 1970 and 1971. Her most famous song “Who Knows Where the Time Goes?”, was voted favourite folk-track of all time by listeners of BBC Radio 2 and has been covered by many artists including;- Judy Collins, Nina Simone and Eva Cassidy. Now, 40 years on the Band perform a selection of her songs from: The Strawbs, Fotheringay, Fairport Convention and her Solo Career.
