Album Notes
This song would not have been born if it weren't for Hugo King and of course, my amazing RendezVous band: Shawn Ellison on keyboard, Shirley Johnson on accordion, Phil Spencer on bass and Joe McCreary on drums.
I met Hugo King a year ago at one of my gigs, where he introduced himself gently to me as a songwriter of French songs and expressed an interest in working with me. A year went by before we met him again at another gig. This time, he had written a song with me in mind. So we got together, and he shyly played the song for me. I identified with the song right away and fell in love with the melody and the story. He left it with me to adapt the lyrics to my taste and to play with the melody and make it mine. i sat with it for a while before I introduced it to my amazing bandmates. Each of them translated my ideas into beautiful music, and the arrangement was born. We all poured our heart and soul musically into it!
Just like a relationship, this song has taken time, energy, and has had its ups and downs. Through it all, I got to know a gentle and generous songwriter, and I have enjoyed the process of taming the song, so to speak. It is now a part of me. I hope you enjoy it.
Please leave me comments and feedback about it. I would love to hear from you. For more songs and more information, and if you would like to stay in touch, visit my website at www.julieslim.com and subscribe. Thank you so much!
English Lyrics:
Don’t You Dare Hugo King/Julie Slim

Here it comes!
Those damn feelings again
I can tell it’s happ’nin’ again
I can hear all the lies
But I see clearly with my sad eyes.

Come on in if you want to
I don’t give a damn!
Don’t tell me you love me too
Don’t you dare!

I’m drowning again
In the pain suffocating me
A dirty ocean of games
You navigate so well
Your lies, echoing all around me
Grow silent in my deaf ears
The end of the play, the curtain falls

How I tried to be by your side
Yet I finding myself alone, empty inside
“I want you!” your lying lips flap
Empty words in the wind, fly!
Nothing to say, nothing at all

Beautiful song
Julie has a lovely voice and this song just sinks into the crevices of your soul and carries you with it. Will be watching for more of her work!

Very moving
Beautiful song in a beautiful voice. While the English lyrics may evoke a melancholy feeling, the final result sounds comforting and nourishing. Prepare to be carried away!
