ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I suppose that to most of the people in the “real world”, the name Junior Watson has little meaning.

But to some of us, myself included, Junior Watson is a bigger deal than most people to ever be the president of the USA.

To us, he’s a celebrity far more famous than Madonna, a guiding light brighter than the Dalai Lama, and a cultural treasure more valuable than the Mona Lisa.

I first heard Junior Watson play on a record when I was 13 years old. It set me on a whole new path, and I have not been the same since.

From that day, I sought out every record he ever played on. Every performance of his I could find was like sifting a nugget of gold out of the sand. I had never heard any guitarist combine the blues with such jazz-tinged playfulness and
unpredictability, and with such a seductive fat and greasy tone. Instantly recognizable and 100% original.

For me, and legions of other aspiring blues guitarists across the globe, falling under Junior’s spell meant that we had an alternative to joining the horde of loud, grating blues-rock wankers. You know, the guys who actually draw big
crowds and top the “blues” charts.

As a matter of fact, as he will tell you himself, I once punched him square in the face over this. With love, of course!
Today, I consider him a personal friend, but I am still not 100% reconciled with, or convinced of, the fact that he is, in some ways, a regular human being.

There is no guitarist on earth I value higher than Junior Watson. Making this record with him is one of the biggest honors in my life.
