ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Featuring collaborations (tracks #1 & #3) between this accordion/cello duo, musicians in Quito, Ecuador (where The Just Desserts have been living), their brass-heavy Austin backing band, vocalist Lillis Urban, and producer Rob Halverson, “La Valentina” demonstrates like never before the fruits of The Just Desserts’ unique vision and artistry. Cross-pollinating the best elements of traditional, pop and classical musical genres from different cultures, these modern and surprising interpretations are a hip trip around the world.

After the whimsical 2007 EP “Meet Me at the Playground,” and the tango-influenced 2008 CD “Love or Die” the September 2010 release of “La Valentina” presents The Just Desserts' most ambitious recording project to date. Cross-continental collaborations between 14 musicians in Quito, Ecuador and Austin, Texas are followed by brass-heavy Balkan tunes learned from traditional musicians from Moldova, experimental revisions of well-known North-American songs, and a cover of a little-known George Harrison Indian composition (performed on cello, accordion, and djembe). Like their performances on 3 continents, “La Valentina” is a trip around the world for the listener.
