Album Notes
This is the first release under his own name for the trombonist Justin Thurgur, on his label Funkiwala, which he founded with his long term collaborator Kishon Khan.
Thurgur is most well known as the trombonist for the seminal English Folk group Bellowhead, but he has spent his entire career immersing himself in London's World music scene. He has been working with Kishon Khan for over twenty years, most recently in Khan's BanglaAfroLatinJazz group Lokkhi Terra, with off-shoot projects including a dub album with Bengali Folk singers Baby Akhtar and Rob Fakir from Bangladesh, and an Indian/Cuban crossover project for the master percussionist Pandit Dinesh, featuring the likes of Giraldo Piloto, Changuito, Julito Padron and Hariharan.
Thurgur has also been working with former Fela and Femi Kuti keyboardist Dele Sosimi for nineteen years, as trombonist, MD, arranger and producer in his Afro-Beat Orchestra.
As a session player he has worked with likes of Tony Allen, Damon Albarn's Africa Express (specifically working with Tony Allen, Cheick Tidiane-Seck and Fatoumata Diowara), The Selecter, Tony Kofi, Osvaldo Chacon, Wara, Bukky Leo, The Soothsayers and The Levellers. He was in the London production of 'Fela'. in the National Theatre.
'No Confusion' is an album that combines this lifetime immersed in the UK's World music scene with an early love of the music of Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Coltrane, et al....
