Album Notes
From the wild and misty Oregon coast speaks a powerful voice for the mystical guitar tradition, with roots extending back through the innovative works of Fahey, Kottke & Hedges.

Tony Kaltenberg has emerged as one of the most distinctive sounding acoustic guitarists on the circuit. His mesmerizing percussive style has been highlighted on radio programs and performances in diverse parts of the world such as the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle, The Oregon Country Fair, Kauai Live, and small venues in the U.S., Germany and New Zealand.

In 2000 he released his first album, Spiral Waves, an exciting collection of solo guitar sounds, from sweet, warm finger-styles, to deep, percussive string slaps. On his second album, On the Wing of the Great Spaceship (2004), Tony broadens his enchantment of the guitar strings and explores ensemble arrangements featuring the amazing Michael Manring (former 'Windham Hill' artist) on fretless bass and the gifted Alex Kelly on cello.

Although TK shares unique renditions with fair regularity when he performs, he sticks mostly to originals. They are reflections of his surroundings, the people in his life, the ocean where he lives, the yogic lifestyle - music from the core. They are collections of sounds, both very distinctive and full of inspiration from all of his gurus, from Hendrix to Segovia.

As a performer, Tony lets the music move his body as well as his soul. He dances the shapes his fingers play, grooving around the stage as he coaxes innovative textures and explosive emotions from his guitar. He slaps the wood a bit, bangs on the strings and teases us with some velvety tenor vocals. He rarely sits unless he has some serious finger-picking to do, and even then it is not for long. ("I love watching him play. He gets his whole body into it. He can come back anytime and share his wonderful gift". - Sherylin Rawlins - Breitenbush Hot Springs)

I love this music...
I walk through the busy streets of one of the busiest cities in the world and Tony's music in my ear makes it pretty difficult to be stressed. It's calming, seductive and just plain wonderful.

Very peaceful, yet energized!!! What an accomplisment!!!
Just received On the Wing of the Great Spaceship, I absolutely love it, put the CD player on repeat. Gave one as a gift and they did the same thing, you just want to keep listening. It is very peaceful, yet very energizing to me that is a good thing. Great Job Tony, it was worth the wait!

I've been playing acoustic guitar for 30 years. I don't often hear someone that blows me away any more. I am blown away by your CD, Tony. Absolutely beautiful playing and perfectly recorded. Nicely done!

Fans of Hedges, in particular, will want to pick up this album. From the dramatic scenery of the Oregon coast comes a distinctive voice as raw and primitive as the wind and rain that have shaped the coastal trees and as contemporary as matters of his own life. Colored by the plaintive song of cello, this acoustic fingerstyle album highlights the talents of Kaltenberg in a collection of rhythmic yet lulling originals.

The sound that refreshes
I was fortunate enough to get this CD prior to the Holidays so when relatives, friends, and neighbors stopped by for some festive cheer, I'd put on the CD without saying anything about it and suddenly everyone in the room would be listening and asking who that is!
That's the sign of an outstanding recording. Good going..

The world's emotions
Life’s best emotions tune-up and played in the arms of Tony Kaltenberg. This CD takes me away. It makes me feel thankful, ready for life, happy, serious, and relaxed. I feel love, happiness, sorrow, understanding, unified and so much more as I listen. I listen to relax, to be happy, to remember. I feel that the life I live he plays through his guitar. My 5 year old loves it we listen when we draw or play games. I think if I had to pick one word to describe this CD it would be Beauty!!

Just Great
Truly a great album in the same vain as Michael Hedges’ first two releases. But there’s more besides the wonderful interplay between Tom and Michael Manring there is also the subtlety of Tom and Alex Kelly on cello. It just leaves you wanting more.

Sometimes......... but not often music can transport you to unknown places of wonder, lift the spirit and just make you feel so damn good you could burst!!!!
Superb accoustic guitar backed by the most amazing fretless bass (how does he get that sound?).
If you hear it you'll buy it and be better off for doing so.A truly amazing piece of work.
