ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Kama Ruby- Badlands of Bakersfield takes Kama back to her roots being raised on country music in Bakersfield, CA….the home of the “Bakersfield Sound.” This project shows her first attempt at songwriting as she co-wrote with the legendary Jane Getz. The album presents many fine artists including drummer Tom Walsh ( America, Spyro Gyra), Bob Tucker (Grammy winning engineer and well respected guitarist), Jane Getz on keys (aka- Mother Hen,), Dan Weinstein on fiddle and tuba, Ray Zepeda on horns, and Chris Colangelo on bass. Featured on back up vocals are Jane Getz, Kama Ruby, and Arthur L. Ross.

The title song, “Badlands of Bakersfield,” is a nostalgic piece as Kama remembers her experience growing up in Bakersfield, CA. The single “Envy,” is an exploration of the jealousy and hate one receives from others as they challenge themselves to achieve new goals. “It’s Fine With Me,” is a sweet love song that jokes about how Kama and her husband argue with one another. Finally, “If Only You Could See Me Now,” written by Jane Getz is an beautiful song with some gospel influence about a woman finding herself empowered after a breakup.
