ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Kamatana is a musical duo from Nairobi dedicated to promoting the music of the obokano to a new audience. This instrument has been dubbed "the double bass of East Africa" and has eight strings which produce a deep buzzy sound. When pairing their obokano riffs with catchy vocal melodies, they create an exciting new sound for fans of world music. The group is made up of two musicians from the Gusii tribe, Dominic Ogari and Samwel Osieko. Both are acknowledged masters of their instrument in Kenya. They are also accomplished songwriters, and this album features both traditional Gusii songs as well as new compositions which present contemporary issues in a traditional style. Their music is a unique sonic experience unlike any other!

A portion of the sales of this CD will go to S'Cool Sounds, an organization providing music education to disadvantaged youth in Kenya.
