ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I selected and arranged these English Country Dance tunes as duos to expand and energize the existing (and overplayed) traditional wedding repertory. The 18 editions of Playford's Dancing Master (published between 1651 and 1728) offer a wealth of tunes that can serve as unique wedding processionals and recessionals. Moreover, this music is wonderfully suited for Kammeraderie's intimate combination of violin and recorder. I wrote these arrangements initially for our own use at weddings, but soon I began to publish the sheet music so that other musicians might enjoy performing the arrangements. Playford Promenade became my most popular anthology.

All 42 tunes (presented on 36 tracks, as there are five medleys) are played at walking tempos perfect for processional and recessional use. Here you will find majestic tunes (such as The Coronation Day, The Highlanders' March, and The Duke of Lorrain's March) as well as lyrical, romantic tunes (such as The Princess, Lady Day, and Maiden Lane), and more upbeat tunes well suited for recessionals. Explore the many options provided here to customize your ceremony and enjoy this journey through English Country Dance music transformed as wedding music! This album will also delight English Country Dance enthusiasts and guests at elegant receptions, teas, and historical events.

Bert performs on soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorders for this album. I'm playing a sweet violin from the 1800's, either Bohemian or German, I'm told. Even though it has no known label/pedigree, I chose it in San Francisco from a lineup of ten beautiful instruments. I earned it working long hours on a biotech project while living in the Bay Area.

A Note to Brides and Grooms: To best customize these songs to your ceremony, we suggest that you:
(1) Time each processional. A bridesmaids' processional with many bridesmaids, a flower, girl, and a ring bearer would take longer than the bride's processional. Likewise, the length of the aisle varies among wedding venues.
(2) Check out tunes that best match the timing of your processional. For optimum flexibility, we've kept these tracks purposefully short, since experience tells us that most processionals are shorter than anticipated.
(3) Adapt your favorite tune if it is longer than your walk down the aisle. You could (a) have DJ or appointed guest stop the music at the appropriate time or (b) make your entrance after the music begins, so that the ending coincides with your arrival at the altar (we prefer the second option).
(4) Select a rousing recessional that speaks to you. Recessionals present no timing problems; the music simply continues to its conclusion as wedding party and guests exit.
