Of Castles, Kings, And Courts

by Kammeraderie

Kingly and courtly men and their castles populate Kammeraderie's fifth album--an apt follow-up to the charming maidens you've met in their previous CD. "Long live the king and courtier too! Songs from their castle brought to you."

Album Notes
The kings, dukes, and lords you will meet in Of Castles, Kings, and Courts march, dance, and contemplate in counterpoint to the maidens of melody in Kammeraderie's previous album. Some legendary castles will also enchant you with this duo's poetic, intimate voice of violin and recorder. Several two-recorder interludes appear in this album. After all, King Henry VIII, who was also a composer, loved the recorder and is said to have owned over 70 recorders!

Of Castles, Kings and Courts includes Irish, Scottish, and English traditional tunes (over 13 Playford English Country Dance tunes appear in this album). The English Country Dance tunes afforded the perfect opportunity to extend tracks by writing creative divisions, a typical performance practice for such music. Bert plays various soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorders. Dorothy plays her mysterious Bohemian violin from the 1800's and at times joins Bert on soprano or alto recorder.
