Album Notes
When Kanan Road decided it was time to start recording their second album, they found the songs they’d written shared some emotional states and narrative threads - life, love, trust, commitment, and communication between friends and lovers, both real and imagined. These songs culminated in “Brothers,” a diverse collection of Country Rock explorations....in Family style form....proves relative to anyone!
Musically, Kanan Road both polished and expanded their approach, retaining their majestic, natural, uplifting sound on “Brothers,” a postmodern mid-tempo, “California Country” style with southern rock tinged guitars and the electrifying rare blend of three part vocal harmonies. “Southern Californian,” an up- tempo anthem geared towards the rapid growth of Country music fans living in California who are caught in the classification of “Country music only resides in the Southern United States”. “Chasing A Memory,” one of the first songs written for the album, sprang to life one magical morning and stands as the album’s emotional highlight, going from the widescreen positive truth of Kanan’s family with the remembrance and urge of the memories in which he came from.

A Must Have!!!
The best $10 bucks you will ever spend for music. AAAA=An absolutly amazing album!!

I've heard the album twice. first on the ride home and second on my ipod. So here's my review, People who hear it for the first time will find brothers to be a really tight and solid country rock album. Since I've listened closely to every song you've recorded since the beginning, I see it as a culmination of everything you've done in the last ten years. While each album has demonstrated progress, this one makes a huge leap in that the songs have a discerning quality that make them stand out. There's a uniqueness in both song structure and lyrics that make them more than just good songs. They stand out. My personal favorites are "Southern Californian" and "Life of Mine". I knew that the moment I heard those two songs on the beach at Havasu, though. Those two choruses are pretty unforgettable, and the lyrics to "Southern Californian" are something to hand your (cowboy) hat on. That song almost sounds like a thesis statement for the band: "Here's who we are, and here's why we make the music we make." " Arizona Sky" is obviously an epic jam, and a great turn of phrase about your exit from that state. I'm sure it sits nicely toward the end of your live set list. The acoustic songs transferred nicely to the full band. There's no need for me to mention every song, because they're all solid. They tell very pointed, specific stories, which I think was something that lacked on past ones. Henry Paul said in one of his emails to you that some of the songs leaned on cliches and vague references to fill out otherwise great songs. I don't feel like there are any such lyrics on this one, and it reeeeeally brings the songs to life. The harmonies are obviously rock solid, as they have been for a long time.
Basically, it's really great. It couldn't be better. It makes me feel legitimately as if something could break soon for you guys, especially since you've been so active as of late. Keep it up. Like i said, it's excellent.
