ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A former leader of San Francisco club band The Luttingers (featuring Camper Van Beethoven bass player Victor Krummenacher), Bob Kannen is now a solo singer/songwriter on the northeast circuit.

His new CD "Receiver" is an inward-looking, eclectic album that was cut with a full band at Brooklyn, NY's Fireproof Recording and produced by Adam Lasus (whose engineering/production credits include Yo La Tengo, Juliana Hatfield and Ex-Miracle Legion leader Mark Mulcahey). It features a stellar cast of players including Joe McGinty and Leah Coloff, supporting Bob's singing,
writing and acoustic guitar.

Bob's introspective lyrics and unique perspective reflect his work as a poet and novelist and they duly demand and reward repeated listening. Utilizing a personal and
eclectic songwriting style laced with pop and country influence, Receiver has a classic rock vibe filtered through an indie sensibility.

Heartfelt songwriting, tempered by dry lyrics and a pared down sound.
Receiver dishes up an album's worth of heartfelt songwriting, tempered by dry lyrics and a pared down sound. Bob Kannen sings in a no fuss, no muss, rock and roll style--more Springsteen than Drake--which provides a solid counterpoint to the introspective, even wistful, tone of the album. Stephen Sollins' guitar playing adds varied tone and texture, ranging from Jayhawks style, scruffy alt-country on "The End Coming" to a rounder, sweeter sound on "Shiny Plastic Rings," the album's opening and certainly finest track.
