Album Notes
"Really beautiful songs! I loved the musical arrangements! It brings a far away atmosphere, that makes you travel while you listen."

"Beautiful...like a great garden! All this beauty, attention, and intention."

"What a awesome musical journey indeed; theres magic inside."

An Electro-Acoustic, Mystical Ethnic World Music Project steeped in the hypnotic melodies of the Silk Road regions of the Middle East and India blended with original compositions by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Narayan Sijan and the collaboration with producer/artist Carmen Rizzo.

The Silk Road is an ancient network of caravan routes reaching from East Asia to the Mediterranean, where many resting inns were established. In the deep desert, caravans converged at a Karavan Sarai (literally Caravan Palace)(also spelled Caravanserai and Caravan Sarai). Mystics, merchants, scholars, musicians, nomads and their camels stopped for the night to rest and celebrate the days journey. The Sarais(Palaces)became music centers for a sharing of cross-cultural ideas and experiences; just as Narayan found in his many years living in these lands.

In the Sarais, when the sun set over the Oasis in the deserts, the music began and thus created a musical woven landscape of the Great Silk Road. The alchemy of such musical story telling was a magic carpet ride to other worlds. The music merged into a unique fusion of traditional songs and newfound expressions of the musicians. These magical moments often only lasted for just the time that these people came together before they continued on their respective journeys.
The musical group Karavan Sarai is reawakening this amazing alchemy of musical storytelling. The album Woven Landscapes is creating a musical blending style of East meets West and Ancient meets Modern. Rearranged traditional music of the Silk Road is woven together with the original compositions of vocalist/multi instrumentalist Narayan Sijan and Two Time Grammy Nominee producer/artist Carmen Rizzo; his credits range from Coldplay, A.R. Rahman, Khaled, Huun-Huur-Tu, Ryuichi Sakamoto to co-founding the world/electronic act Niyaz.
