Album Notes
“Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:19-20

In Karin Simmon’s first CD, Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs, she does just that – inviting all who hear the songs from her heart to join in worship and give thanks to the Lord. Not only is this the offering of her record, but also her life.

In early 2000, Karin accepted the position as worship leader at a church in Nashville, Tennessee where services and worship were centered around the liturgy of the church calendar. Preparing worship for seasons such as Advent, Epiphany and Lent impacted Karin’s understanding of worship, as well as the means to enter into worship.

Says Karin, “It made sense to me. Following the tradition of believers through the centuries somehow linked my worship to theirs. Believing that God created us first for communion with him and then for communion and community with others, this makes the liturgy very important in worship. It points us as a community to Him.”

With this experience and understanding of the importance of liturgy in worship, it only made sense that Karin’s first worship album would be shaped by the meaning and power she had experienced through liturgical worship.

The result, Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs, is rich with this influence. Partnering with producer, John Mark Painter, the album offers an eclectic a mix of original and traditional tunes…of psalm settings, hymn arrangements and songs often used in the liturgical setting. And it is Karin’s greatest hope that the album will move people into the throne room of God.
