Album Notes
Now based in Milwaukee, Mary Karlzen has just released her latest album, "Dim The Watershed".

A long time South Florida area favorite, Karlzen is extremely proud of the new album, which she self produced with help from Mark Bryan (guitarist for Hootie and The Blowfish) and Fred Freeman.

The album was recently released on South Florida indie; Y&T Music and is now available at CD Baby.

Karlzen's previous album, "Yelling at Mary," was released on Atlantic Records in 1995 and featured guest appearances by Jackson Browne, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty), Kenny Aronoff (Indigo Girls & John Mellancamp) and Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo).

Produced by Kevin McCormick (Melissa Etheridge), the album was embraced by major music critics across the country and the video for "I'd Be Lying" was on regular rotation on VH1 and CMT.

Karlzen is also a featured artist on both of Atlantic's top selling Christmas albums; "You Sleigh Me" and "Winter, Fire & Snow".

Karlzen has shared the stage with some of the preeminent songwriters of our generation including Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Nanci Griffith, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, Indigo Girls and others.

A small sampling of reviews for "Yelling at Mary":

"Karlzen never sounds like an imitator; she seems more like the equal of Sheryl Crow and Nanci Griffith. If you listen closely, in fact, you'll find that Karlzen rocks harder and more infectiously than her better known colleagues" - GEOFFREY HIMES - Washington Post

"This refreshing major-label debut is a polished work of folk-tinged rock." - DAVID ELLIS - People Magazine

"A powerful major-label debut from a woman whose voice and songwriting display a beguiling mix of grit and grace, cynicism and childlike wonder" - Billboard Magazine

"What really pulls Karlzen out from the parade of hopeful newcomers is her lyrics" - MIRIAM LONGINO - Atlanta Journal Constitution

Mary will touch your heart
Ask me to list my favorite songs of all-time, and "She" is on that list. Ask me to list my favorite singer-songwriters whose music sits nearly alone in quality and insight, comfortably beyond almost everything I hear on commercial radio today, and she IS my list. Ironically, though her lyrics occasionally suggest she may never appreciate her own beauty, her music makes the case for her.

Remarkable style and a wide range of approaches to songwriting mark this as a mu
Alternately somber and sunny, she’s got a knack for writing powerful songs and making it seem easy. Maybe it is the use of instruments that usually get thrown by the wayside in pop music. Or perhaps the delicate bud of a voice that springs into full-blown flowerdom from line to line in each song. Or still yet, the versatility with which she jumps from genre to genre, marking her space with straight-forward pop songs to big emotive ballads and then a mellow country-sounding shuffle. Yeah, you’re right. It is all those things. You really have to check out all the sound clips for this one before you can get a full idea of what to expect from this record. It is so very vastly smart.

Outstanding Vocal Range!! You need this CD and tell a friend to get one.
Some times you can get a cd with only one good song, but this CD is not one. Not only are the lyrics interesting but the music is outstanding. You have to listen to every song and then share it with a friend. The only thing it leaves you wanting is to go out and see Mary live. The Cd is full of energy.
