ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Improvisation and composition coexisted in the musical practice until well into 19th century, but in the 20th century improvisation almost completely disappeared. Nowadays, we perform finalized compositions in which each and every detail has its place in the score. The performer’s role is to translate the intentions of the composer, and communicate them as precisely as possible to the audience.

An improviser, however, creates music without a score. Pieces come to life by the forging of inspiration, inner creativity, influences of music heard and absorbed, technical abilities and limitations. An improvisation unfolds every time in new ways, and will never be played again in the same way. The composer and performer become one.

The tracks on this CD are my personal journey through places, times and ideas: travel impressions, reflections on the works of the great classical composers, 'classified' jazz standards, and improvisations that seem to come out of nothing. Captured to be played -paradoxically- again and again…
