Album Notes
"Sheer enjoyment to listen to for the discerning and intelligent music lover."
The Progress

"This very talented duo used a variety of instruments, including a mandolin, several guitars,
harmonica, even a washboard, the strongest instrument of all was Kat Wahamaa's strong sweet voice." Suntimes News

"Wahamaa has a warm, yet immensely powerful voice …great support too from guitarist Tony Rees."
Peace Arch News
"...brilliant singer." Peter Birney, Vancouver Sun

Everything Blue is brimming with Kat & Tony's original roots, jazz and blues tunes and one signature standard they love. Their eclectic tastes in music, harmonic sensibilities, and ability to fashion timeless tunes bring to mind everything from Emmylou & Gram to Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks. They have toured in Canada, the US, the UK and Japan to rave responses.

Kat & Tony write and play beautiful music together and are real life partners, too. Fans and friends have long awaited this project which delves further into their jazz and blues cupboard. A theme of finding joy in the fundamentals of life runs through the songs, whether you are down on your luck or surrounded by stuff.

With “voice you can take a bath in” Kat Wahamaa has toured internationally, released 4 CD’s and performed her music in theatre and film. A proud Grrrls with Guitars alumna she has been nominated for two West Coast Music Awards and was the first Canadian songwriter to be chosen as a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.

Tony Rees, originally from the UK, fronted the Western Swing ensemble Shiny Buckle Band and was a founding member of the old-time blues bands The Caboose and Shirley U Jest. Tony and Kat also make up half of the roots quartet Back Door Slam along with Joe Samorodin and Jennie Bice. They also have an album available on CD Baby called I'll Get Mine.

Kat & Tony proceeded with recording in a rather nomadic way, starting with just the two of them at Dave Flood’s studio in Lund, British Columbia. Next stop Whistler, with Simon Stribling (New Orleans Ale Stars) on horns, Lauri Lyster (Mother of Pearl, WinterHarp) on drums and Dave Clairmont (The Caboose, Mojo Zydeco) on bass, in Whistler at Stribling’s Holy Mackerel Studios. They then mixed those tunes with Victor Smith (Wheat In the Barley) at his Freemantrax studio in Vancouver. During their two month tour in Japan, they wrote and recorded in Kagoshima city with Kat’s son hip hop artist Jesse Warner (PUCK, Cheese’n’PotC); and finished the project with Joe Samorodin at Annwyn Studios in Mission.
