1. In a Dream
This was the first song Peter wrote for the album. Dominic\'s guitar sounded so good playing this song we decided to have him play the whole first verse and bring the piano in later.
2. Time Will Tell
Peter wrote this song originally with a very distinct \"rubato\" (out of time) feel. Dominic felt very strongly that we should play \"in time\" and together. He was obviously right. Dominic and Peter recorded this song together in three takes.
3. What Lies Within
Peter wrote and recorded his piano part the morning before our 3rd recording day. Dominic felt it was \"inspired\" and immediately layed down his track with no rehearsal. The song continued to evolve. We asked Jaques to play on it. It was Peter\'s first time working with Jaques and Peter just couldn\'t believe how much emotion there was in Jaques cello playing. Finally, with Kenny\'s haunting layered vocal track, the song\'s soul is complete.
4. And We Danced
This is actually the first song we recorded together. Sort of our \"getting to know you\" song. The more we played it the more it took shape and when we got to a place where we thought it was feeling good, we went on to other songs agreeing that we\'d come back to this one later. When we came back to it we agreed it sounded complete as it was and let it be.
5. Close to You
This was the first song that Kenny sang on. We had only asked him to sing on this one song on the record as a sort of \"camio\" appearance. But when we heard what beautiful work he did on this one we went running back for more.
6. Chasing the Sun
Peter came up with the piano part that is the backbone of this song. It was flowing and had good energy but no real melodic content and no real \"evolution\". Dominic added melody, rhythm and improvised thru the track and it really turned into something fun.
7. In Her Eyes
This is the really \"quiet\" song on the record. There is a \"stillness\" within the piano and guitar that we wanted to protect. Kenny\'s beautifully layered vocal pads seem to whisper the song to a deeper peace.
8. Gut Feeling
Dominic wrote this song in his hotel room the morning of our 5th recording day. We must have been playing very intuitively that day because if you listen, you\'ll hear that the piano and guitar are so intimately woven together it\'s almost as if they were one instrument.
9. Clockwork
Peter had the melody and chord changes for the song and a guitar pattern idea for Dominic to play. Dominic took it and weaved this beautifully layered tapestry of guitar fingerwork and harmonics for the piano and cello to glide effortlessly over.
10. Hand in Hand
This was the last song Peter brought to the project. He wasn\'t really sure if it was \"working\". Dominic\'s sensitive \"rolling\" guitar work really added a wonderful dimension to the song and gave it more \"flow\". Kenny\'s vocals gave it wings.
11. Folk Story
Dominic wrote this song the morning of our last session. Peter fell in love with it immediately and was thrilled to be given the melody to play. We recorded it in one take.

The sequence on this record is the order in which the songs were written. We tried rearranging them to make the sequence \"better\" but always returned to feeling that the original order was the way it should be, so . . . we let it be.

\"I\'d like to give a very heartful thanks to everyone who contributed to this project. Firstly to Dominic (my favorite guitarist) for taking the time out of his busy schedule to spend a week with me working on this. Your playing is magic. To Kenny for spending so much time layering all these beautiful vocal pads and for generously putting his heart into these songs. To Jaques. I hear the soul of humanity in your playing. Thank-you for sharing it with me. To Rick for really putting in the time and energy to create the two videos for this CD. They\'re both beautiful. Thanks so much! To Avi and Susanne for generously allowing us to use Avi\'s beautiful painting \'Baldwin Beach\' for our cover. And to my wife, Gabrielle, for believing in me and this project and for striving to make it t he very best it could be. I love you.\"

Sandy Shore Review
“Instrumental music that’s meaningful…” that was the focal point for guitarist Dominic Miller when he set out to record this masterful, gentle project with fellow multi-Grammy Award Nominee, pianist Peter Kater. One of the most successful pianists of our time, Peter has been recording thoughtful, melodic piano since 1983’s SPIRIT. While his music is often categorized as New Age, I think it’s safe to say that his songs transcend genre. The composer is uniquely diversified… in addition to his solo endeavors and his environmental and humanitarian efforts, he has recorded hugely successful projects with Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai as well as critically-acclaimed film and television soundtracks. On IN A DREAM, recorded with long-time Sting guitarist Dominic Miller, the borders between guitar and piano; classical and jazz; the simple and complex have become transparent. In addition to this artful collaboration, Kenny Loggins has contributed evocative vocal textures while cellist Jaques Morelenbaum enriches the recording with soulful performances making IN A DREAM a beautiful landscape of music!

Sincere music
I've met Peter's music thanks to Dominic who is my favorite guitarist too. I got the cd and sat on the sofa while listening carefully to it. I felt the music like I didn't do long time ago. I'm a musician and sometimes it's difficult just to listen like a non musician would do. This time I just listen to it and felt a lot of sensations. The music was really telling a story.
Thanks for that Peter and Dom!

"In A Dream" es pura maravilla.

Realmente, emocionante!.

"And We Danced".

Alentadora y optimista es "Chasing The Sun".

Me gusta!.

meaningful, sensitive music
I went to Peter's website and there for the first time I heard some tunes from the album "In a Dream". It was album's third song; What Lies Within. And it was amazingly beautiful. I ordered it from CDbaby instantly. This recording is beautiful, it describes my life and feelings with it's sensitive and simple style. Harmony with Peter's and Dominic's playing is amazing. With whiff of cello and vocals, this is very beautiful and meaningful recording, and I recommend it to everyone with warmth.

From MainlyPiano
"In A Dream" is the Grammy-nominated release from pianist Peter Kater and British guitarist Dominic Miller. Kater has been a long-time fan of Miller’s music and felt it would be a “dream come true” to do an album with him. The two worked on some film music together, and Miller suggested that they collaborate on an album, hence the title. A blend of composed music and improvisation, the music is fresh, soothing, and elegantly beautiful. Adding to the magic is the soulful cello work of Jaques Morelenbaum and the wordless vocals of Kenny Loggins. As prolific as Peter Kater is, he never seems to miss the mark, and this CD could (and should) easily earn him the Grammy prize.

"In A Dream" begins with the title track and Miller soloing on the first verse, setting the soft-spoken, reflective mood of the album. The piano and guitar interaction is stunning in its effortless perfection. “Time Will Tell” is a gorgeous ballad that again weaves guitar and piano into a single entity with no one trying to be the “star,” letting the music itself stand in the spotlight. “What Lies Within” introduces the cello and layered vocals, creating an ethereal quartet. “And We Danced” picks up the tempo a bit with lighthearted grace and a gentle energy. “Close To You” is almost ambient with its quiet tenderness. Piano, guitar, and vocals are perfect together. “In Her Eyes” is like a peaceful whisper - tranquil and warm. “Gut Feeling” is one of Miller’s compositions - another piece where the two artists became one as the music evolved. “Clockwork” is a somewhat more abstract and energetic trio for piano, guitar, and cello - sparkling and slightly edgy, I love it! “Folk Story” closes the CD with another Miller composition, this one recorded in one take - amazing! The cello, piano, and guitar are seamless and effortless, ending the wonderful album with a gentle sigh.

"In A Dream" is another masterpiece from Peter Kater, and a stunning debut collaboration with Dominic Miller and company. We’re hoping it’s the first of a series! Very highly recommended!
