Album Notes
Kath Reade, well loved singer-songwriter from the North West of England, releases her follow up collection of eclectic true story songs to make the juices flow...songs of a small boat off the coast of Scotland, and a touching tribute to love lost...songs to invoke memories of ancient gatherings, dancing and singing round the fire....insightful, passionate, with a voice to melt your knees. Her previous well-received album 'Devotion to Song' was dubbed 'A serious piece of gorgeousness' by Roots and Fusion, and this is more so, lovingly crafted by it's producer and musicmaker Rob Van Sante, well known on the US folk roots scene in his own right.
This labour of love, released on Red Sands Records on 2/2/2015, has musicians of high quality amplifying the sumptuous arrangements, the Swarbrickesque electric violin of Ian Fairbairn (Jack the Lad), and the melodic accordian of Alan Reid (Battlefield Band), are delightful. Popular Bradford duo Otra appear on 'My Dog Jess' making this homage to a much loved companion sound like an Appalachian back porch jam. The last track departs from folk roots into a spectacular jazz treatment of one of Kath's most requested songs, 'Friendship', with her son Shaun playing soaring smooth jazz riffs on the piano.
Kath's music heroes are many, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Sandy Denny. Bessie Smith, Richard Thompson, Leonard Cohen, Christie Moore, June Tabor, and her guitars are the finest....a Gibson J200, a Fylde Chieftan, a Guild, and a Flamenco guitar handmade in Valencia.
After a career at the frontline of social care, the first woman Leader of Burnley Council, Chair of NHS healthcare trusts, and international speaker on fighting poverty and poor health, Kath now devotes herself full time to her first love, singing and playing music, and through her work in Deepsong Sound Healing, holds sound journeying workshops with gongs, tibetan singing bowls and drumming.
Tim Wheater said, ' Kath brings a wonderful warm insight to her unique work with sound. Endowed with an extraordinary voice and healing sensitivity, her abiliities are a gift for humanity.'
